FC5 or FC5A footswitch
« on: October 25, 2018, 09:04:40 PM »
Does anyone know the difference between the Yamaha FC5 and FC5A footswitches.

I am looking for a footswitch that will allow me to move through registration settings on my Genos with a simple click of the footswitch. I fancy the FC5 but the FC5A seems to be cheaper but I don’t know what, if any, difference there is between them.

Not sure about the FC5.

I have and succesfully used a Yamaha FC4 to move thru registrations.

thanks

The problem with FC5 / FC5A pedals is that these pedals are too light and so get kicked or moved around unintentionally.

The FC4 piano sustain type pedals are much heavier, and they tend to stay where they are.

Thanks,
Paul

Have been using two Fc4 pedals for years with no problems. Really sturdy

Thanks for the replies folks but they don’t really answer my original question.

I have looked at the FC4 and it is certainly a very sturdy sustain pedal and I understand that it can be used to move through Registrations and that it has other benefits (weight/sturdyness) but....

a - I am not looking for a sustain pedal just a simple footswitch to move through Registrations or assign otherwise as I need
b - The FC4 is designed to mimic the sustain pedal of an acoustic piano but is a little overkill for my needs
c - The FC4 is more than twice the price of the FC5

I think that I am sold on the FC5 for my specific needs but, as I originally asked, I don’t know the difference (if any) between the FC5 and the FC5A. I have researched them online but this hasn’t answered my question.

Rumney,
I use the FC5 to do just what you want to do, change registrations. It works fine and mine was bought when I got my first Tyros1, so it will last.

I did not know that there is a FC5 and a FC5A. I have a FC5 and it is perfect for that purpose. Get it for 23€ from Amazon.

Yamaha do not list a FC5A Pedal. I have a FC4A and it is well made and nice and heavy.  HOWEVER they are very expensive for what it is.  There are other makes available which are very cheap (not cheap and nasty)   M-Audio do some for around £12  and are just like the Yamaha ones.

The other ones like the FC5 are not worth considering in my opinion.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone.

I have now established that Yamaha only make one such device - the FC5A - but most suppliers and indeed Yamaha themselves rarely use the full title. So the FC5 and FC5A are one and the same thing.

I was going to buy it from Amazon at £23.99p which is the cheapest that I could find anywhere online but I contacted the original music shop that supplied my Genos and, whilst they couldn’t quite match the Amazon price, they have agreed to supply it to me for £25.00 inclusive of delivery.

I am happy to spend the additional £1.01p to supports my local ‘bricks and mortar’ music shop - many such local suppliers must be in danger of failing due to the online giants.

I am looking at this old post . . . . I am considering buying a Yamaha FC5 pedal to just move thru Genos registrations.  It looks like you have an FC5 . . . just want to make sure this is the same one . . .

can you please look at the link below and confirm this is the same Yamaha FC5 pedal you have been using succesfully to move thru Genos registrations.

Thanks in advance.
