Full Protective Cover (Foil) for Genos, Tyros And More!
« on: October 15, 2018, 04:47:39 PM »
I stumbled across this and I would like to share it with everyone.
There is a protective cover available for the Genos that looks awesome.
There is a tutorial on Youtube on installing it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CK19YqtZD00

It took me about an hour to find out how to buy it and how much it is.
I have attached some pics to show both the covers for the keyboard and for the keys as well.
The price for the keyboard foil is 62 Euros including shipping for most of the world.
The price for the key foil is 15 euro if you order with the keyboard foil.
I am ordering a set on Wednesday and when I get it I will post how it was to install and my opinion as to how good it is.
He also offers foils for 60 different keyboards and mixers.
These are all precisely cut for each one.

To install such protective film / cover on Genos, all the knobs and fader caps have to be detached first.  They are pretty tight - I am scared of using too much force will break some of them.

Good luck in detaching all knobs and fader caps intact, and putting them back without any issues.

Thanks,
Paul

I watched this Youtube video illustrating how to install this full protective film on Genos.  When I saw how the knobs and fader caps were removed, I got scared and ignored this product:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVC2ffmuL3U

Google translation of a viewer's comment:
..., actually a class IDEA, BUT: Some manufacturers are extremely fussy in terms of warranty and warranty. If I remove the knobs from the GENOS, as shown, the manufacturer might come up with the idea that this is an interference with the instrument, which will void the warranty and / or warranty, in other words, the instrument will fly out of warranty Out. Your opinion on this question interests me very much, so thanks in advance for your answer.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,
Removing the caps and knobs are actually very easy.
They are similar to most knobs on mixers etc.
Taking off the knobs, keeping the indent on the top when you take off and reinstall is easy.
I actually do not know yet if the sliders need to be removed.
So, there would be the 6 knobs, and the slider for going between Song A and Song B.

Gerard

Hi Paul,
I just looked at the video from Musik-City and saw it was a little different than the one I am getting.
Also it is 79  euro plus shipping.

Regards,
Gerard

I wonder if the cover on the keys will have an effect on the feel of the keys . . . .

By all means let us know the results of your project.

thanks in advance.

Hi Al,
I was wondering also if that will have an effect on the keys, will let you know.
I do think they look cool too.

I noticed too in the video, there is a sheet you pull off when you install it and then there is another sheet you pull off when finished installing.
I think this will help prevent dust when applying.

It looks good on the video. But I would be concerned that over time - like a year or so of robust use - the plastic film itself would get damaged or start peeling here and there and look much worse than the unprotected keyboard would look after several years. And how easy is it to get it off if that happens? And even if you do get it off you would have glue residue all over, and how do you get that off?The keyboard finish itself on a Yamaha is quite robust, and I think the film would be much more vulnerable to damage and discoloration than the original keyboard finish. To me it seems like a solution to a problem that does not really exist.

Only for protection, why??? For 'Pimp your Genos', that's OK, but then with other colours or nice designs  ;)
My best regards,

Mike,

On the Tyros 4, 5-76, and PSR970 that I had, the lettering was starting to come off from playing a lot.
I also have natural sweaty hands and that did not help.
I am going to ask him about the adhesive they use.
The only adhesive that there is, is along the bottom and the top where it goes over to the back of the keyboard and not on the top of the keyboard itself.

Gerard

It looked to me like there was adhesive on both sides of the film, the way he was peeling off the covers but maybe I have that wrong.

Hi Mike,

He said that there is weak adhesive that comes right off with alcohol.

I don't like it :) It makes Genos ugly :D
I prefer no protective film ... I clean my keyboard after a gig and is as new :)

To me this covering seemed to make Genos look shinny. Much prefer it as it is. I don't see the need for sticking things all over an expensive keyboard.

I totally agree with what Eileen said.

Depending on how someone use its keyboard, below buttons (most used buttons, like variations/fills, break, intros, endings), in time, the black plastic will become shinny. But I really don't care too much about this "inconvenience" :) I like the matte black of Genos, as it is now, even in time in some places will become shinny (a little bit).

Vali.
