PSR-S670 and XGWorks
« on: December 17, 2018, 04:27:32 PM »
I have downloaded XGWorks on the XG-Central site and this sequencer works fine on Windows 10.
I think this is a great tool for midi sequencing and editing the sounds of Yamaha instruments.
But as it's an old software, there is no support for the PSR-S670.
My questions are : are there people here that use XGWorks with the PSR-S670 ? Do you know if you can add configuration files for this keyboard.
Any informations are welcome :-)

Hi --

The short answer is "Yes, it's possible." I suggest studying the files in:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Yamaha\XGWorks\XGEditor"

Each instrument has TBL and INI files. The instrument must also have an entry in the xgeditor.ini file. Bill Gross produced a "patch" for the Tyros 3 (attached) and a similar patch for the S910.

Be prepared to do some detailed tedious work. Also, make a back-up copy of everything. I blew up XGWorks when modifying the xgeditor.ini file. (XGWorks would no longer launch.) I suggest extreme caution!

All the best and good luck -- pj

If you blew up XGWorks, what hope do the rest of us have? :D

Sometimes the wisest course of action is to put everything back where one found it and step away...  ;)

I'm in awe of Bill G.'s Tyros 3 mod. He did a great job and it works.

All the best -- pj

SFF2 voices will not work in XGWorks.

Plse convert styles first by using Joergen's conversion prog first. From SFF2 to SFF1.

Tyros1 and Tyros2 ( + older ) stys will always work in XGW.

XGW works with the *.sty extension only !

Extensions always need to be changed before saving them in the XGW styles file.

Good luck, Babette

Conversion of Style from SFF2 to SFF1 is not a good solution because SFF2 sometimes loses properties. A better way is to open SFF2 with MixMaster and then Go To in XGWorks and edit Style.
