Soundwonderland's new website
« on: August 01, 2018, 10:24:27 AM »
After 1 1/2 years of work, the new Soundwonderland website is now ready for use.

https://soundwonderland.de/pages/en/home.php

I enjoyed watching this clip on 'Lead instruments'. Really inspiring.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJcu02zLOrQ

Oh yes, one more thing about the renewed website:

Another surprise:

We have some small bright red packets hidden on our new pages, the content of which will hopefully be fun?
The contents of some packages can also be used by those who do not play Yamaha keyboard.

Tip:  you do not have to open the information of each sales product to check if there is something hidden.

Enjoy,
Stijn

Hello Stijn,

this moment I discover that you have  already been so kind to write about our new shop here.
Thank you very much!

A very interesting news might be (what could be important for English speaking musicians):

Our complete shop and all correspondation around is now also in English language.
So you don't have to fear not to understand something anymore.

And if there are questions, you know: I always try to answer as fast as possible!

Now we are looking forward to your visit, and we hope that you like our new pages.

Sincerely, Heidrun with her Soundwonderland team

Congratulations to your new webshop!
Browsing there is really fun and reveals interesting products.

It's a pity that it is still buggy:
On one PC I was not able to start the payment process - the checkout button in the cart popup window always threw me back to the starting page.
On another PC (different browser, different windows version), although I AM LOGGED IN, the software does not allow me to go to the cart, it forces me to re-login. After doing this, it tells me that I am logged in, but continues to do so as I was not logged in.

So apparently I have to wait some time and try utilizing the benefits of this interesting webshop later.

Hello tramano,

thank you very much for your feedback.

Most of the new orders are done without any problems.
Mostly it is up to the used browsers or browser configurations.

And ... did you already try, what I yesterday sent by newsletter?

-----------------

Should you get stuck during the ordering process, it could be that your browser uses data and cookies from our earlier Web site version. And that will feel like trying to put a square peg in a round hole! :-)

In that case, the following should do the trick:

Empty your browser cache and delete cookies.
Next close ALL browser pages and restart your browser.
If you don't know how to do that, just Google it.

If your browser is still giving you a difficult time, we recommend that you try with a different browser.

-----------------

Indeed some of our clients are surfing with Windows XP or earlier, using very old browsers.
No wonder that some functions of nowadays don't walk.

My webpage programmer Bernd often is very upset about the diifferent browser standards.
No chance to build websites with same functionality and optic!

Kind regards, Heidrun

Ok, tramano.

Your browser probably has stored ccokies and chache data of our old shop.
Without them it is not possible to buy something in online shops.

But! The shop has changed totally, and the old data don't fit to the new shop.

So I can't help you here.

By the way: Many orders came in while we have written here...

Hello Heidrun,

Congrats on creating your new and updated website. I was surprised to see how much various content you have there for us Yamaha players. I saw two new free play styles on your website called "Serenade" and "Symphonic Flow". I would love to get these free play styles but I have a Tyros 4. Can you tell me if these two styles would play properly on my T4?

Thanks!

Hello Tom,

maybe you didn't see that "Symphonic Flow" was also programmed for Tyros4?
So it is also available in our shop.

I just checked "Serenade" on my Tyros4.
Unfortunately it uses Mega Voices, which are missing in Tyros4 in comparison to Tyros5.

So I have no chance with revoicing, what I tried.

My result:
Symphonic Flow works well, Serenade not.

Yes, and Fred:
Surely Tyros4 has Free Play styles - but different ones to ours.

Have a nice day, all together!

Kind regards, Heidrun

P. S.: Although both styles are made for Tyros5, they work fine on Genos.
We only have no seperate Genos version, because the difference would only be .... the naming! :-)

Hi, Heidrun and Stijn  ;D
You have fantastic good styles for my compositions, but the price of a single style is too high for me. It amounts to 2% of my teacher's retirement in Poland.
10 styles is 120 Euro, or 1/5 of my pension.
I know that your styles are of the highest quality but I can not buy them yet.
For several years I have been visiting your website from time to time to "console your ears" with the sound of these styles.
Regards and I wish you a lot of customers.
Sincerely :)

I'm really sorry to hear that, Ryszard.
Surely it is also a difference up to the country where you live how high a retirement is.

About the styles:
It is a difference to build styles with 2-bar-loops and only little differences in the mains - to 8-bar styles with very much variations in each Main and Fill in.

To program such styles you need much ambition and time.
Also, because they are not sold as often as many of you would probably think.
Not really easy to earn the daily bread from!

But our first aim is quality and we hope that the customers feel how much love we spend for each of our products.
And also in all information around them.

Just a tip, Tom:

Take the Symphonic Flow style and revoice it in the Mixing Console (change the instruments) up to your taste.
Then enter the Style Creator, press one time "Exit" and save the style.

Probably you will be astonished what you can achive with these few steps.

Probably you have to take Megavoices if the original style track is recorded with a Megavoice.
But just try it!

Good luck!!  :-)

Hi Heidrun

Can you do a mixing course for us numpties sometime as that would be a good seller, I think.
The trouble with all the things that go with the Genos ,not enough is said about EQing and effect editing tto get Genos to the best possible stage for mixing and gain staging.
It would be great to have tutorials on Mixing and mastering Inside Cubase.
Mixing is  a headache for me and I would love a crash course on video.

I played a song and used the real pro song as a reference and could get no where near it >:( :-X :P ;D.
I am slowly getting my head around It ,but It gets tiring after a while when you meet dead ends.
I am ok with EQ ,but limiters ,compression etc is going to take time.

Personally I think if you can get a quality recording out of the Genos, not too much has to be done.
Now that I have got the Genos eq master right for me things will start to look up.

I wonder what your thoughts are on this type of subject as It is most important to save your own archive of songs

All the best

Hello John,

to be honest: I am no pro with external software.
I use PSRUTI and XG Works to correct and adjust my live played an recorded Midi files.

And for my registrations I use my ears to find out authentical and good sounding voice combinations.

The main EQ I only use if I play on gigs with a bad room frequency.
I don't use the compressor because I have to have a neutral sound when I am programming new software.
Because I cannot know which such functions are used by the customers.

I know that there are lots of mixing and mastering workshops, courses and tutorials to be found in the internet, and Steinberg offers also live workshops etc.
Nothing for me - my day has already 26 hours... :-))

Hi Heidrun,
I really like your software.
However, I feel a little overwhelmed at times with all the possibilities the Genos has to offer in the guitar department.
You guitar registration are great, however I am still looking for an authentic Santana guitar: a la "Smooth" and Pink Floyd guitar: a la "Another Brick in the Wall"
Thanks

Hello Eric,

I did my best to reach this original Santana sound with two of my packs (the new "Lead Instruments" and the "Famous Rock Ballads").
But ... beside of all sound tunings and effects I am always related to the samples that are stored in our keyboards.
The better and authentic these basic sounds the better are the chances to reach original sounds!

Thank you for your reply Heidrun.
The Europe and Samba Pa Ti sounds are great. No doubt.
Santana played a Gibson Les Paul on these tracks. He switched to PRS guitars with Smooth.
There are setting for guitar amps and effects on YouTube to get that sound.
I have seen the effects even with a Fender Strat and it works great.
Just a bit over my head ;)
I thought with all the DSP power in the Genos it should be possible ...
Thanks again.
Great work.

Hello Gloria,

thank you for your kind words!

I try to make my work as professional as possible, but surely also I have my personal limits.
Since I started with Soundwonderland I learned lots of new musical and graphical things, and every futher year was very valuable and important.

Both topics are wonderful creative, and surely I will never reach the point to know all around them.

So Eric, perhaps there is a better Santana sound in our keyboards as I achieved.
It is my knowledge and ability of today, what I reached - but I continue learning every day! :-)

Hello Eric,

You can pack as many DSP's in a keyboard as you like; to a guitarist it will still sound like a keyboard and to a keyboard player it will still sound like a guitar  ;D

Paul Drongowski on his site has a great article about this - see http://sandsoftwaresound.net/which-guitar-is-which/

Just reading through the guitar pickup types - you can already tell that there is so much more to this. And yes, you will find lots of suggestions about settings, but can you imagine what it takes for every great guitar solo and sound to research the history of it, their original set-up, what makes them unique, and what it is that took them to their "signature sound" - in order to produce the appropriate samples and settings on a keyboard?

I too am a crazily huge fan of the Santana, Pink Floyd, Alan Parson's, Natharez, **** even Uriah Heep, etc. sounds - and I really wish I had at least a VSTi or something I could use "out-of-the-box" - but to find the one that "nails it" - has in most cases still eluded me :-) And in my thinking, it's not that the Yamaha sound engineers don't want to produce them - it's more like "where do you even start with all that variety?"

So thank you for input, because that is exactly what is needed so the guys at Yamaha can get a feel for what sounds folks are after.

Cheers, Roland

Aaaah... thank you so much for this link, Roland.

As one can see: The guitar world is a completely different world, and to get the most authentic sound in our keyboards you need more knowledge that most of us probably have - me included.

I think, most important is the result of a sound: What sounds good and which voice combinations go together well.

But it is a really interesting discussion here!

 :D

Thank you for the article Roland.
I remember reading it before.
Great job.
There are some great YouTube videos of guys playing distorted guitar solos on a KB.
Given, that it can never be the same as the real instrument, it can be pretty darn close.
After all we are not trying to be the instrument (which of course does not work) but create an illusion and try our best to emulate certain characteristics.
The SA and SA2 voices are of great help and a great starting point.
One guitar I always wanted was a screaming Wah distorted guitar.
The S-970 has a guitar for a great foundation.
After experimenting with the effects I got pretty close and are very happy.
The great thing is, that it works in my Genos ....  ;D ;D 8)
The closest to a Santana guitar is the Guitar Hero From the T2, 3, 4
It lives in the legacy folder.
I usually use this one with another guitar to get close to the sound. ...
Santana uses humbucker   type guitars like Gibson Les Paul and PRS.
However, nowadays effects, stomper and amps can almost make any guitar sound like anything.
Look at the Taylor T5 ...
There are Stomp boxes to make your electric sound like an acoustic and vice versa.
That being said I saw a guy playing a very convincing Santana sound on a Fender Strat.
That's why I have hope, that even with the samples in the Genos we should be able to make it happen ...
Maybe Yamaha will listen and release a sound pack ...
Or Heidrun gets all inspired, or ...  ;) ;D
Best regards
Eric

Regarding the Pink Floyd guitars ..
Try Solid Guitar and Vintage Open (from Legacy sounds) as mixed R1 & R2, add reverb and effect, pan up to get depth to taste.
Thats what I use for Another Brick In The Wall.

The Soundwonderland styles should be good, as they are twice cost of Yamaha's own (at 15 Euro rather that around 7 Euro each. If I could understand any justification, I'd be there every week. I sympathise with Ryszard and Erbis.

Another option are Soundpacks UK registrations.

Hello Al,

justification?

1. Yamaha has his style producers in countries where they can produce cheaper.
2. The effort difference between styles that have only little differences in the mains
3. Difference between 2 bar style loops and 8 bar style loops
4. Free Video tutorials, pdf tutorials, repertoire lists, very good and direct support
5. Fair payment to the style programmers
6. No only a hobby beside a profession - but our daily bread
7. No mainstream products that are sold hundreds of times
8. Do you know what it means to have an own little company?
With all the laws, taxes, costs around?
9. .... did you ever programme a professional style from scratch for a Yamaha keyboard?
If no, you would NEVER ask such questions again...
They really make angry because nearly nobody knows what effort is behind.
Seven days a week, 14 hours per day!!!!

Regards, Heidrun

P. S.: By the way: How long do you have to work for 15 Euros????

Hi ..

OK ... But CHILL 👍😊

SongWRITERS also get the crap end of the stick.
I DO think you should put these justifications on your website though. Be straight up with prospective customers maybe?
Personally, although I have the technical ability, and the patience, I could never do it, sat there 24/7. I appreciate long hours spent.. Yes I run my own business, work hard, and can make that amount in 40 seconds, that's not the point ...  I pitch to just ONE person, you potentially pitch to thousands worldwide 😊

It's not obvious on the website, what all the advantages of membership are.
And maybe you might consider optimising a mobile website version?
The layout is very peculiar and wide using mobile/smartphone.

Maybe I'll try a couple of styles 😉😊👍 Any style you do suitable for Brothers in Arms?

Hi Heidrun

The sound quality of the Acoustic Guitars are great and so are the Electric Guitars and Strings. I purchased them.
I shall look over some more later

I realize it does take a lot of work to get sounds right and people must realize It saves them  time and are able to play straight out of the box.

All the Best
John :)

IMO____
Cannot stand that moo moo singer, absolutely dreadful and that keyboard sounding like a kids wind up toy.
Sort of mooooo MOO and rap rubbish. These women all sound the same today like a cats mewing. I call It dumbed down music.
Modern music Is getting into a rut and the same old rubbish is churned out week after week
Thank God for the Rolling Stones that bring class to Gladstonbury and showmanship.
Ozric Tentacles produce great new music that does not get recognized
I am still In love with Hawkwinds   Silver machine

Bring on Pink Floyd , that is class and Camel!! . Now, that woman In Berlin can sing  Terry Nunn!! and the lead singer of Heart
I am so glad I lived through the great era of music Rock, prog, Soul, Stax, Mowtown, Atlantic,
Maybe I am getting old and grumpy!!! :o

All the Best

@ Al
Our clients know why they buy our products - without justification! ;-)

We have a mobile version, you can find the switch on the bottom left.
Did you ever try to turn your smartphone into landscape format?

As you can see,
our pages have
much more pictures
than any others
of keyboard
software
companies.

There is no
chance to show
them together
with our lots
of information
in upright format,
if you don't want
to have a result
as you can read
in this last
two sentences!!!
:-)

@ John
Is is not only that one can play out of a box.
Sometimes I have the chance to listen to self-made registrations of our customers.
.... no wonder they search for alternatives, to say it shortly.

By the way: These days we are building a new time machine.
Interested?  ;-)

P. S. Al:
Yes, thousands of persons are able to hear our products wordwide.
But one doesn't get rich from them.
Your imagination of sale numbers are far far far away from reality.
As I wrote bevor: We don't sell mainstream products.

Amen! I made styles from Motif/MOX performances. Each style took a day. And that was starting from finished musical material -- mostly the technics of translation, mixing and effect programming. Then there is testing on different arranger keyboards for compatibility.

A good quality style is labor intensive.

Keep up the good work, Heidrun -- pj

P.S. If anyone is interested in those styles, you'll find them here:
