When can we see the next upgrade?

When can we see the next upgrade?

Genos sounds good, but call it "Digital Workstation", I do not know if I can agree.
In Tyros editing of Styles, you can edit more than in Genos. Seems like the Styles program is not complete in Genos.
As with the handling of Midifiles, one must look for the file every time you edit, a little frustrating.
Yamaha have had the same program in the entire Tyros series for almost 20 years without modernizing the programs is boring.
In Genos they have even gone back, and removed features found in Tyros, not good.
I think they should add features instead, so you can easily work in Genos without getting to the computer.
I bought Genos a bit too early, hope there will be an update soon, so I can fix my files as I want them.

Greetings Pierre

Once you have loaded your Midi File into song creator the only thing different is that you have to press Step Record and then select the track numbers you want to alter. Everything else is the same as on Tyros 5
With style creator I like the fact that we can now edit drums much better but changing voices and volumes is much the same as Tyros 5 and just as quick.
I expect we may get another update when they have collected all the information on what is needed.

Hi Pierre,

congratulations, your posts/to thanks ratio is outstanding.

Let me thank you also for this posting.
Maybe we Scandinavians look at things in a similar analytical (critical)  way which seems - for us hard to understand - to be regarded by many others as negative.
I actually like the Genos Style Creator better than what was on Tyros,  and I would say as most all of us are former Tyronians I would not necessarily feel bored by anything good we got used to being left the same, but with everything else you write I can fully agree.

Multi-mode in the Midi section It's the one that's hard, you have to find the file so many times when you want to change something.
When you press Multi mode, it loses that file, and you have to find it again, similarly when you exit Multi mode. not in Tyros there is the file left.
Heaven a hard way to hold on, in my case.
First to that menu then menu 2 then Song record then Multi mode then empty box in the display
then Usb1 then P3 then midi-maps then my folder with midfile late midifile = 10 pressures each time to load the file
instead of ensuring that the midiprogram opens The file directly, just like Tyros.
In the Style section, they have managed to retain the file to edit directly.

Once you have loaded your Midi File into song creator the only thing different is that you have to press Step Record
and then select the track numbers you want to alter. Everything else is the same as on Tyros 5

But nothing more, I want you to easily insert lyrics into the midi file.
Import a * .txt file and make captions - in the text that you can do in the Sonar program to get a "karaoke"
Then I do not want the microphone settings in the midfile without having tag VH / mic.
All Tyros has this fault as well.

is much the same as Tyros 5 and just as quick.

But Boost/Cut and Groove for the whole style at one time is missing.

Here are more
I play intro III and OTS 3 and hold down Am all the time.
Listen to this file. Seems like the memory hits the ceiling.
Unable to handle as much data at once.
If you release the chord it sounds good.

Greetings Pierre

It's been almost four months since the last OS update. Yamaha has done a pretty good job of fixing numerous bugs but there are still a few left. For instance, when you transfer a large audio file into Genos and then choose File Edit/Rename/Icon and you try to change to a different icon sometimes it becomes stuck and it won't allow you to change to the icon you specify. Either that or it takes an inordinate amount of time before it finally changes to the icon you specify. If it gets "stuck" you have to cancel the procedure then choose a different audio file, according to my example, and then back to the file you want to change. Then, if you are lucky, after you try again to Rename/Icon it will finally change to the icon of your choice and the file is saved as it should be. My gripe is that it shouldn't get stuck or take an inordinate amount of time to change the icon in the first place. Hopefully Yamaha reads these threads and will relay the information to Yamaha Japan but I'll probably have to call them to make sure they are at least aware of the situation.

Other bugs and anomalies have also been listed on this forum since OS update 1.30. Since it's been almost four months since the last update I'm hoping Yamaha software engineers are busily preparing update 1.40 and when/if it is released it will be the bees knees. Or in other words something that will knock our socks off.  8) Here's to hoping.

If members have reported these things yo Yamaha then they will have checked to see if they are faults and will produce an update in due course when they think they have them all.

Hello dear friends!!
This is my first post on PSR Tutorial Forum.
My name is Sokratis, I am from Greece.
I am professional style programmer, and sound engineer.
Μaybe some of you know me from Synthzone Forum.
So..  A few months ago I bought the Genos and I am glad with this Arranger Keyboard..
Its realy a amazing Arranger with fantastic sound!!...
However I found some deficiencies and I sended a email in Yamaha about this...
I hope fixed or added in a future Update...
I post now my email to share it with you.
Thanks.

Style Creator, and Style Problems
1) I found that Sustain Pental does not work in Style Creator when we want to record something.
I consider this to be a very negative element and I consider it extremely important that we can add expressive data through Sustain to instruments such as Piano, Ac.Guitar, El.Guitar, etc
I know we can have this ability if we write our Styles through a DAW (Cubase, logic, ProTools etc).
But because time is precious and many times we need to do something in a direct way, I would like to ask you to add this feature to your next Update.
Here I have to note that in all the Keyboards/Arrangers of other companies (Korg, Ketron, Roland) this function exists.

2) In countries like Greece, Turkey, all the Balkan states as well as in many Arab countries, there is a need (due to our Musical Culture) to have a different Time Signature than a simple 4/4, 3/4, etc .
We have too many (Basic Styles) in Time Signature: 9/8, 7/8, 11/8, 5/8, 13/8 etc.
The options that Genos has in Style Creator are:
2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4.
I urge you to add the possibility not only of Fours, but also of Eights because it is impossible to make styles concerning our musical culture, which we use as a necessary element in live performances.
I think it's best to have a free choice from the user and not strictly limited to 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4.
Sitting in the musical world there are not only these.

3) I noticed that after I loaded my own Audio Drums, which I made through Audio Phraser, although it works quite well, many times Fill is not activated when we do not just press the Fill switch to the meter position do not play Fill, which is often impossible on a Live Performing.
The Fill switch re-starts when we press it, which means it's got the command, but it does not play Fill.
In tests I found that this does not apply to Factory Audio Styles that I downloaded from the Yamaha Site where everything works correctly without any problems.

4) Another point I found and I find quite problematic is the Insert FX system in a Style (and I think it's the same in the other areas).
Suppose we want to add an FX chain to a channel, for example, a Compressor, an Amp Simulator, and a Phaser.
When we open them, everything is all right, and after setting them up everything is perfect.
But (and here's the problem), if we want to re-set up one of the FX chains, there is no way (or at least I could not find it) to get back to one of them.
The only option we have is to do Edit only on the last FX of the chain that appears in the Assing Part Settings (Effect) section.

5) There is another problem with saving FX but this time the problem is detected in One Touch Setting.
So when we want to modify an OTS in one style, and we want to have two FXs in a chain of a part of the sound, (Right 1-2-3) everything is OK (except for the FX Edit problem that I mentioned above), but after the OTS has been stored, there is only one FX in the chain and the first has been activated in defoult mode.

6) Audio (Audio Drums) can not be EQ ...
I find this extremely negative because my Audya experience has shown me that EQ is a very important and necessary tool for Audio Drums to glue into the mix of instruments.
At Audya we have in the section of Factory Audio Drums and User Audio Drums, where there were two Band EQ (Bass & Treble) regions with multiple frequencies of choice, and as a professional programmer and sound engineer, I feel this is necessary.
When we hear something about it, for example, an Audio Loop, it's completely different than making this Audio Loop fit and stick with other instruments in a mix.
Out there we need EQ, and Compressor for this purpose.
But given that Audio Drums has already undergone Mastering at the finishing stage, I consider it an indispensable element in the Style, just the EQ in order to homogenize our mix.
So I think the EQ that you've removed is very important, from Reverb & Chorus Send that you have left open.
I would like to ask you to add at least the EQ of the two regions that exists in the other Mixer elements.

7) Also I found significant shortage on Style Creator.
I think its very important to have except Retrigger (on Changes of Chords), and Off Trigger like Korg, and Ketron...
This is important in a Guitar Strum Chanel for example, becouse with Retrigger mode, does not allow in change of Chord to complete the Chord Strum and to be heard smoothly, but interrupts it and enters in the next chord, and that sounds very bad..
In a style when we Programming a Guitar Strum, (for example 2 Bar Style), this Recorded to the last two quarter of the last Bar..
With Of Trigger the Strum play the Chord and in the change of Chord does not interrupt completion of the previous Chord.
Also the Of Trigger it's very useful when we Recording a Piano or some times in a Arpegio Guitar with which we do not want to start at the beginning the play in every chord change..
We want the chord change, but not to altered by the Retrigger Mode the Riff that we have recorded..

Audio Phraser Problem
I'm having a problem importing Audio Loops Elements (Main, s / Fill, s etc) and for some reason I get the Internal Error # 0096 message.
The wave loop file has no problem ..
The same loops work without any problems at Ketron Audya as well as in Korg Pa3x / Pa4x that I have put as Slice Groove ..
This does not just happen with this Audio Style but also in other cases I went to create my own Audio Style.
I can to send a attach the Print Screen as well as the specific wav file to see what can happen.

Welcome to the forum Sokratis1974! I hope you and your family are doing well. I heard about the wildfires on Greece and I want to give my condolences to all the families affected by the natural disaster.

Thank you for sharing your concerns with Yamaha. Hopefully the requests you mentioned will be provided in a future update for the Genos. It has been about four months since the last OS update and I for one am looking forward to the next one i.e. 1.40. They say patience is a virtue so I will try and stay positive and hope for the best. Maybe a Yamaha representative can chime in and give us an idea as to when the next update will be? Hello? Yamaha? It that too much to ask perhaps?  ???

Thank you very much dear friend for your concern.
It indeed was very frightening and sad for me, my country, the 100 people who died and the ones who went missing.

On a different note I too hope the engineers of Yamaha take the mail I sent into consideration and improve on what I wrote them.

Audio Phraser Problem
I'm having a problem importing Audio Loops Elements (Main, s / Fill, s etc) and for some reason I get the Internal Error # 0096 message.

Hello Sokratis --

Thanks for your thoughtful post.

I agree completely about Audio Phraser. I gave up using it due to bugs and that infernal Error #0096 message.

Yamaha needs to have 2 or 3 summer interns sit down with Audio Phraser and really use it. Make a bug list. Then, fix the darned thing! It's not ready for production work.

All the best to you and welcome to the Forum -- pj

Yes, indeed, but this is what Yamaha did on all arrangers (as I remember). The Style Creator "function" (as they call) can read other types of measures (as you wrote above), but you cannot insert directly in style. Style Creator in all Yamaha arrangers is very poor, because they have to sell on Yamaha Music Soft site, their content :D
This is Yamaha's marketing and it has been discussed a lot of times!
Sustain control cannot be read by Style Creator, but it can be replaced by Release Control. I know, is not so easy as Sustain Pedal, but it can be done. Surely, if they implement this type of simple control in Style Creator, the work is much much easier!

...
4) Another point I found and I find quite problematic is the Insert FX system in a Style (and I think it's the same in the other areas).

...

Yes, you can edit all of FXes, but you have to turn each-other off, to bring the next layer in front... It is annoying, I know, but it is the only way :)
Here is a video I've made some time ago, and I show how can be done! (Even in the video is made for Right part, is the same for style parts!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXlTg_rvj-U

...

I don't think Korg has off trigger option, but the OS it does like that ;)
Personally, I discovered that when I wrote some Guitar Mode channels, I have to make the length of notes overlap the next notes, and right before next notes I insert some guitar FXes from C8-G8. In this case the strumming seems to be more realistic.

My really fear is the touch controls for volumes, or FX parameters knobs (on touch), because they change on the first touch of them, not on the second, as it has to be... I send them some time ago this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGZWz6RTm34 and I explained in description how it has to work ;) Look at the strange behavior of the knobs or linear volumes on touch screen... It was just about to burn my loudspeakers!

Best regards,
Vali

Dear Vali.
Thank you very much for your detailed answer.
But I believe that some parts like Sustain pental, the correct use of chain FX  and like you correctly mentioned near the end your problem with the touch controls for volumes which I have also encountered many times and I find it dangerous for the loudspeakers (and for the ears of the people  ;D) they must be fixed by Yamaha.
Concerning the Retrigger mode I believe that you were wrong here that Korg doesn't have an off trigger.
There are three Trigger modes in Korg:

It's from Advanced Manual of Pa3x

1) Off Each time you play a new chord, current notes
will be stopped. The track will remain silent until
a new note will be encountered in the pattern.

2) Rt (Retrigger) The sound will be stopped, and new
notes matching the recognized chord will be
played back.

3) Rp (Repitch) New notes matching the recognized
chord will be played back, by repitching notes
already playing. There will be no break in the
sound. This is very useful on Guitar and Bass
tracks.
Thanks

Dear friend For 10 years I have been busy with two greek Korg projects as well as some audio styles for the Audya for AJ (Ajamosincs).
I am waiting for Yamaha to fix some problems in the OS and I am considering to start making professional Styles/Audio Styles for the Yamaha Genos.
You can hear some demos from my current work in the following links:

True for an instantaneous setup, but I think you will find you cannot save it with all edited parameters intact. For example if you save the chain to a registration only one of the effects will retain the edits (the last one edited if I remember correctly). The other effects are still present in the registration but the parameters are not saved and will have reverted to preset values when loaded.

Dear Mike, I like the piano pedal in style creator. Yamaha should change it

I do not know how difficult it is to implement this feature, which is already so old in other brands, in the keyboards yamaha arrangers.
I'm surprised that Genos, a keyboard that costs more than $ 6,000, at least here in Brazil, does not have this feature.
Some time ago I published this dissatisfaction here in the forum, because it is not too much, but as I see that even Genos does not, I ask:
How long will it be before we can record styles with the sustain pedal on the PSRs?

Please Yamaha, I know this forum is not an official complaint site for the company, but I know you are here reading these complaints.
These are simple things that change all the way consumers come to the brand.

Strong hug to all,
Enildo

Dear friend For 10 years I have been busy with two greek Korg projects as well as some audio styles for the Audya for AJ (Ajamosincs).
I am waiting for Yamaha to fix some problems in the OS and I am considering to start making professional Styles/Audio Styles for the Yamaha Genos.
You can hear some demos from my current work in the following links:

1) Sokratis Ultimate Musicorama Korg Styles http://www.sokratisstyles.com/430752360

2) Sokratis Ketron Audya Audio Styles (Ajamsonics) https://soundcloud.com/sokratis-1974/sets/new-ajamsonic-audio-styles

Here is some photos from my Sampling Session in amazing Sierra Studios in Athens

Best Regards.

The Sultans of Swing style is great, as is the Roxy Music, and One one Night styles.
Maybe you should sell as Song Styles (like Yamaha do on Musicsoft site)
TBH, a lot of their midi are crap, so I only buy one or two occasionally.
Individual well-mapped song Styles for Genos may be the way to go!

👌😉 Al.
😊  I started out with nothing .. and I've got most of it left!  😊

🎹 Tyros 5-76,  now the brilliant Genos 🎹
Genelec 8030C Studio Monitors on K&M stands
K&M Spider Pro Stand, K&M Accessories. I love K&M!

But Gilmore's slide guitar is impossible for me ... We need some kind of Ribbon Control for a pedal steel sound 😊

You can use a "PedalSteelAmp" of your choice and turn on the "mono" Voice Effect. Then adjust the portamento to plus or minus "85". If it's to play solo notes, it's very good.

I hope you have understood what you wish and I am not explaining any nonsense.

Seems like Yamaha has stopped updating Genos.
They have something else to do than to correcting their programming errors and mistakes.
Yamaha seems to be pleased with Genos as it is, but I'm not satisfied.

I don't think you can say that three updates (1.1, 1.2, 1.3) in less than a year is "stopped updating Genos".

I could be wrong, but I think we'll all be pleasantly surprised that we'll see an update before the end of the year which not only fixes bugs but adds new features.

Here's hoping,

I doubt it...
With montage evry update had new features and/or new content..

I think the arranger team deffinately works their own road..

Why does that negate pj's conjecture?

The Genos has been out less than a year. The last update had a significant new feature (Voice Guide).

I'm with pj. I think we'll see updates like Montage -- every six months, and at least one new feature.

Because they are on 2 whole different teams?

If Genos had been a car, had the consumer been satisfied with that condition Genos came out with?
You can only drive on first and second gear first year, then we'll see if there are more gears in the future. Who wants to buy such a car?
Having to wait almost a year to get all the mistakes corrected.... I do not think so.
Calling Genos a Digital Workstation is wrong (locked styles and incomplete editing options).
It's just a keyboard with styles to play and that's Genos good at. in today's implementation.

Hi Pierre,

I think your car analogy is somewhat exaggerated (missing gears). I believe the car (Genos) already has all the hardware installed (you already know upfront the Engine capacity, Seats, etc) The users are looking for software updates like updating navigation, being able to increase programmesettings of their seat which they seem to miss in this high end luxury car. Fair enough ;)

I think most of us are using our Genos with no problem. I have not come across any "mistakes" as you put it.
You will never have the perfect keyboard that suits everyone because everyone want's different things from it. Me I just want to take it out and play it and so I have spent time setting it up to do this by tweaking up my sounds and styles to produce what I want.

There is indeed nothng wrong with the Genos..
Sounds great, and no real bugs..

There is just some things missing i would like to see
The €1200 modx6 makes that even more clear.

But what Genos does, it does it excellent
The only thing many think wrong is the non tilting display
But you can’t solve that with a software update.

Hello, as Pierre and Bacchus say, Genos is good only for it's able to do: Plug and Play. But with editing, it's a shame for a so expensive instrument. It's a big "toy" but not a professional instrument. Of course, sounds and styles are good but it's not all we can hope to go further and work professionaly ! The advertising that Yamaha did with it was, in my opinion, misleading
