Each new Tryos update was an improvement. and I had the money and desire to jump to that as quickly as possible. I could also see, many users, skipping a newer model waiting for the next. For the majority of us, $$$ already or will become a more significant factor.
For instance at 70, I can't see me buying more than two computers, for my duration here on earth. Of course software, hardware, manufactures do their best to force you buy up, because they stop supporting the model you bought. The good thing about a keyboard, that is is self contained. so even if future models have more improvements, your current instrument still has the same value to you. When younger, (with much more spending $$$) I was a techno-hardware addict. I had to have the newest and the best. Eventually I had to drop out of that catagory, although I will still continue to do that with Yamaha arrangers.
Look at guitar players. I have old bandmate, who are still using the same guitar they bought 50 years ago. It still does everything they need. Although guitar technology has improved during the decades, it is still the same basic mechanism. Because of kbds, design, and the current 'what's hot sound'. is is like woman's fashions. I would often get that in my production. 'I like it, but it sounds too 90's. Of course I have no desire to make music that sounds like what is happening more.
Genos incorporated some EDM sounds, try to capture some of the younger generation. For me, those styles and sounds are useless. The Genos is an arranger kbd. not a DAW workstation. Yes, you can use it to a degree as one, (I do). But I also use other hardware, software, for my other musical needs. The majority (I believe) are using it as a one man band device). And it works incredibly well as one.
The bottom line is Yamaha is out to make money, not appease 1000 users, who would like all these additional features. Granted I believe they do listen, and if it is an easy software, update, to add, modify to get that feature they will. Or consider it as a feature in the next generation.. They also be careful not to 'overlap' their instruments. Ideally, if you're a studio musician, they would like to buy two or more of their kbds, modules etc.
