Hi,

A friend of mine has a strange problem on her Genos.
When hitting the highest C available on the keyboard, when the C one octave lower is already pressed down, that highest C does not sound.
However, when releasing that lower C while keeping the highest C down, that highest C will sound at the moment the lower C is released ...

Pressing (playing) that highest C is fine as long as the C one octave lower is left untouched

When trying that same thing on my Genos, everything is fine.

Both our Genos' are on the same 1.30 firmware

Does anybody has an idea if a setting could cause this?
The fact that it only seems to happen with that C, so that makes me think of a hardware problem, but then again, when hit isolated, it plays fine ....

Any help or suggestion is appreciated.

thanks

Sounds like the R3 split point is set to the highest C. So check the split point.

Does it happen on all voices and just with those notes?

It's not something stupid like playing a mono voice?

Thanks for that suggestion Fred !

But that's not cause. The R3 split point on her Genos is set to G2. Same as on mine.

Thanks !

Thanks for that idea Derek, but no, it is not a mono voice. It occurs with the standard piano voice, the one Genos boots up with.

Yes it would seem only those two notes have this issue

If this does not happen with the B right next to it, and it is not a split point issue, it seems like a fault, albeit a very peculiar one.

Has your Friend tried doing a reset and seeing if this clears it.

No she has not.

If we do not come up with a solution, the idea is that I would go over to her place on monday, take a backup of whatever I can on her Genos, and then perform a reset (powering up Genos, while pressing the upper white key).
We may give the dealer a ring before the reset, see if he comes up with a solution ...

Talking about this reset.
Does anyone have experience with this type of reset (power on while holding upper key)? Will it delete files (recordings, registration files, styles, midi setting files ....).?

Thanks

A reset won’t affect any files.

Well, we did a reset today as planned.

No change though.

So probably a hardware problem after all.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions !

For those interested .... here's how the story continued .....

So my friend took her Genos back to the dealer for repair.
And all went well. After just a week she got it back and it is working fine now.

A look at the service report (image attached), surprised us though !!
Apparently Tyros 5 parts were replaced, Tyros 2 parts were replaced, Motif parts were replaced  :-\.
She thought she had bought a Genos ???;D ;D

I guess some parts did not change since Tyros 2 ..

But the keyboard is working fine now, and that afterall is the most important thing

Hi --

These are all parts of the FSX keyboard. Since the T5-76, Motif XF7 and Genos have the FSX 76 keyboard in common, it's not really a surprise that the components are attributed to different instruments in the Yamaha parts database.

All the best -- pj
