PROBLEM - Touch Sense on Keys
« on: May 10, 2018, 06:16:11 AM »
I have a strange problem and any help is appreciated…
I have a registration that seems to force the touch sense on all voices not to work… the voices remain at a fixed volume setting so there is no “light” touch sense on the keys.
It seems to be related to the registration settings because if I start with another registration that recognizes touch sense, then use and save the same style as the broken registration, then the voices work properly.

Do you know of any setting that would cause this?

Thanks for your help.

Post the registration registration so we can rake a look at it.

Here is the Registration I'm having trouble with...
(Although I think of each position as a separate song)
The [9]   registration position has voices stuck at a fixed volume, no touch sense.
The [10] registration position uses the same style and voices but the touch sense works on the same voices.

I can't find any settings to set the voice touch sense on [9].
Any help is appreciated.

The only real difference I can see in the internals of this registration is Touch is turned Off in button 9, and turned On in button 10.

I don't know how you can set it to "On" using the Genos, but you can make that change by editing the registration in my registration manager. See link below.

Thanks Murray,

I have looked all over the Genos for this setting... Ain't found it yet...
I will certainly try your registration manager, since I have other registrations that have touch turned off.  Some must have come from the transport from Tyros 4.

Thanks again...

You can see and change the Touch Response of the keyboard via [MENU] > [Keyboard/Joystick] > [Keyboard]

This is explained in the section 'Setting the Touch Response of the Keyboard' starting on page 33 of the  downloadable 'Genos Reference Manual'.

 [MENU] > [Keyboard/Joystick] > [Keyboard]
Does not work on this registration button [9].  No matter what you set the touch response does not change.   The same stye on button [10] will change.

I had to use Murray's Registration Manager to change the Touch value to ON.  It was set to OFF on button [9] with no way to set it from any Menu.

Thanks Ian

Go to Menu and select page two. Now press Keyboard/Joystick or Press Direct Access and move Joy stick. Now select Keyboard for Touch set up by putting ticks in the boxes or removing them. Save this to Button 9 and then re-save the registration bank.

Hi HBrancher

I think Murray has the answer for you.  In the genus you can set the touch types but not by an ON or OFF feature.
The registration manager will allow you to turn On or Off the touch response. A lot of people turned OFF the touch response on older Tyros models as they could not handle to rather poor feature (only applicable to old ORGAN players).  The Genus has a far better range in the touch response.

The keyboard also allows you to turn touch response on or off.
See the reply in Eileen's post.

Hey Eileen, thanks for the post, this is an issue with me too. Followed your suggestion up to saving to reg. #9. How do I save it to #9? While I'm at it, how can I keep R1, R2 and R3 from returning to default of 100 when I change the OTS while playing a song?  Thanks . . . Don in MI

You save to reg 9 the same way you save to any other registration button. Press the Memory button, then the reg 9 button.

OTS volumes do not "return to a default of 100". When you press an OTS button, it loads the voices with the volume specified when the OTS was created. So if you want a different volume, you memorize what you want and save the style as a user style.

Thanks Eileen… but this does not work… The button [9] must have been
imported from the Tyros 4 with Touch set to OFF.  Murray’s Registration
Manager allows you to turn this setting ON…  Then all works fine.

John,  see above…

Bill,   Murray’s answer works… Unfortunately I’ll hafta modify all my
Registrations that came from my Tyros 4 that are set to OFF.  Painful...

Thanks to all…

Eileen,
I would be greatly in your debt, if you could download the .RGT
file i previously posted, try button [9] vs [10] and see if there is a
setting on the Genos that will clear the Touch =  OFF parameter.

[9] has no touch response
[10] has touch response

Only if you have time to fool with this…

Thanks again,

Hi HBR, if the reg was made on Ty4 this changes things and the issue has been raised before. Namely if a Ty4 registration sets initial touch to off on Genos the latter's modified menu system/ OS seems unable to reverse it. Your #9 Reg confirms this on my Genos. As you have found, editing the registration using Murray's software is the workaround until Yamaha modify the OS.

I don't see any way to set the general Touch parameter. In Keyboard/Joystick, you get to set touch parameters for each voice, but not overall Touch itself.

I tried modifying one of the voice touch parameters, then re-memorizing and saving the registration, but that did not turn Touch on.

If somehow Touch got turned off, the only way I see to turn it on is with Murray's program.
