PSR-EW410?
« on: March 31, 2018, 05:24:39 AM »
I currently have a PSR-S950 that I LOVE but it's needing a bit of work, just getting a little glitchy. I really love everything about this except for the 61 keys; "everyone" said I'd adjust when I went from my 9000Pro to the 950 but I'm still missing the other 15 :). So my plan is to purchase a PSR-EW410 when they're available, and use that until my beloved 950 (which I bought just a couple of weeks before the 970's came out!) comes back home, keeping/playing it of course...

Since Yamaha just announced the EW410 not too long ago, what would be the best guess on when it may be available? I haven't followed their timetable for such things in the past so I don't know if I'll be waiting weeks or months, or what is typical. I can tolerate the strange things my 950 is doing for a while, but I really want to get it fixed.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience. I don't participate much in the forums but I do like to nose around once in a while!

Hi chiaowl,
Yamaha estimates its price at 600$
https://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/portable_keyboards/psr-ew410/index.html

the pre-order here costs 400$
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PSREW410--yamaha-psr-ew410-76-key-portable-keyboard

here at 489$
https://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-PSR-EW410-76-Key-Portable-Keyboard/dp/B07961N6BY/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1522443967&sr=1-1&keywords=PSR-EW410

So maybe weeks or a couple of months in the worst scenario?
As long you are sure about buying the EW410 why don't you contact a trusted seller to give you a good offer by pre-ordering the keyboard first and an estimate delivery date according to his information.
How many days do they need to fix your s950 anyway?

Thanks Panos...I've actually already spoken with a local store where I've purchased in the past, and the closest they could come was, "I dunno, maybe in the summer or the fall?" They were ready to let me pre-order from them however...anyway, I can wait, just want a LITTLE idea how long :).

I have no idea how long it will take to bring my 950 back to good form, we used to have an authorized service shop here in Michigan, but now that I need one I'm not finding it; Yamaha's "list" of such places is blank, so I will need to call them I suppose. Meanwhile my local store is recommending an electronics place where they send keyboards for refurbishing. I haven't yet been able to check with them but am hoping to stop by next week, I want to talk to Yamaha first as I'd rather use an authorized place. I don't really want to be without my keyboard for more than a couple of days, and I need it for our church music at any rate.

I've been considering a 2nd keyboard for a while anyway, this really just gives me an excuse ;).

I have read all of the ads for the EW410 from places like Sweetwater and Kraft Music, as well as Yamaha's own site. This one will work nicely with the 950 for my purposes :).

Thank you so much for your response :)

oh! so you really need a keyboard...
Well, you cannot wait until May or summer or September then( :o are you about to order for a tanker ship ??) .
You got to fix your s950 and not rely on having the EW410 first  :(

Ideally it could happen now, yes. The 950 does strange things like suddenly going to an ending during playing, or turning on the OTS, or similar. It is playable definitely until it gets in a bad mood.

I guess you have done a Factory Reset and still has that strange behaviour?
Is anyone having an idea what may cause such a problem to a keyboard?

Yes, that was step one.

I'm wondering about dust buildup on connection or something? But I know absolutely nothing about electronics, though.

The May date comes from Yamaha's original announcement about the PSR-E463 and PSR-EW410:

Pricing and Availability

Yamaha PSR-EW410 (MSRP: $599) and PSR-E463 (MSRP: $479) keyboards will ship in May 2018.

Note that Yamaha's MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) is always a good bit higher than the price that the American retailers charge, although the price that retailers in other countries charge is sometimes closer to the MSRP.
