What are major differences between an S770 & S970?
« on: March 27, 2018, 03:44:45 PM »
What features are on the 970 that's not on ther 770?  What about tone?  Is it just that the 970 has more styles and voices and the ones that both have sound the same or is there a difference in tonal quality?  Anything else worth knowing?

The two boards have many things in common, including the operating system and most of the same samples. I'm pretty sure that if you put an S770 and an S970 side by side, and played the same voice / style on both, you would be hard pushed to tell the difference.

I think the main differences are that the S970 has ...

.. more panel voices
.. more panel styles (not a big deal since you can find them all on this site)
.. more expansion memory
.. the 'euro organ' sample in Organ Flutes
.. better onboard speakers
.. vocal harmony
.. audio styles

The last two are the only real functional differences.

Pjd says here why the s970 have a better sound system which sounds logical for a more expencive keyboard.

I think people who sing or playing live in audiences should buy the s970 and not the s770.
For the rest it depends on the budget they can spend I guess.

And the s970 has a colored screen also.

In S970, some styles play different sounds. They play better. No problem, you can rip styles from the S970 and will play better on the S770 than the preset ones ... Of course, some will lack the sounds. The EQ presets also differ.

Hello : I ended up buing the S970, even though it was almost double the price of the S770. The reason was vocal harmony. I am very satisfied with it. Good luck choosing :)

As PJD said, the onboard speakers on S970 are better but if you're routing to external speakers there's no difference.

If you need vocal harmony, then you need the S970.

Both S770 and S970 have identical colour screens.

Yes - the S770 is a significant improvement on the S750.

I think that the S770 and S970 are much closer together than the S750 and S950 were.
