Not happy with song creator
« on: January 18, 2018, 01:50:10 PM »
Hi,

I read the following article from PJ concerning recording or revoicing a song in the song creator:

  http://sandsoftwaresound.net/genos-funk-alto-sax-demo/

PJ stated two lessons learned about the song creating process:

  • Figuring out where the S950 “Song Creator” went, and
  • Getting the Genos to apply and save the new voices, effects, levels, etc.

I have to agree PJ concerning the workflow of the song creator. In earlier keyboards we could:

  • Load a song in into song player, and then
  • make changes to voices and the mix
  • call the song creator to apply and save the changes
  • continue using the song player

Well, for Genos they mixed it up, all is more complicated now. Now we have to:

  • Load a midi file into song player in one of the two slots A or B.
  • Play around with revoicing and mix.
  • But to save the changes, we have to call the song creator, which now is found in the recording menu
  • On startup, the loaded song and all changes are gone. The song has to be loaded to the song creator separately.
  • All changes voices and the mix are reset. Do all the changes again.
  • Then apply changes to the file and save it.
  • Returning to normal mode, the song player is empty.
  • We have to load the song again (for the third time) by searching it in the file system
  • Now we can use the song.
  • For every change we want to save to the song, the procedure is to be done from the beginning.

So we have three points, where we have to do and store settings to a song:

  • For voice and mix edit, we have to call the midi recorder and apply and save the changes there.
  • For song position markers M1 to M4, we have to use the song player, and save the settings to the song there.
  • Information about muted tracks have to saved to a registration. They cannot be saved to the midi file.

So, if one knows all this, it is possible to come around. But the ease of the workflow has been reduced as compared to the PSR-S or Tyros solution.

How are your opinions? Is this right? Or are there tricks to make it easier? I hope they will update the firmware, such that a loaded song keeps loaded upon startup and leaving the song creator, as it was before.

Very negative.
I already explained that "problem"

and I think that need to be fix in next UPdate.

Ok, thank you for that link. Then it has been discussed before, which I didn't see.

Sorry for the duplicate.
