Hi John,

There was a thread that talked about Genos wheeled carry case:
https://www.psrtutorial.com/forum/index.php/topic,41063.msg322104.html#msg322104

This is a custom soft case with wheels for Genos at €153 or £134.58, currently out of stock till Jan 15, 2018:
https://www.thomann.de/gb/soundwear_stagebag_genos.htm

Info for US site, $157, after shipping to US $193.48, currently out of stock till Jan 15, 2018:
https://www.thomannmusic.com/soundwear_stagebag_genos.htm

Thanks,

Both rolling bags: the Gator 76 and the Soundwear Genos, seem good on pictures.

According to specs and interior dimensions they both seem to fit the Genos.

The Gator 76 is less expensive but a bit heavy at 25 pounds.   The Soundwear, is more expensive (even more expensive in the US because of shipping cost) but seems lighter. However, i could not get the weight from the specs.

Anyone know the weight of the Soundwear bag ?.   If it is substantially lighter than the Gator, it may be worth the differential $$.

thanks

I had a custom padded soft case made for my  Genos by Blue Heron.  It is the third one they have made for my keyboards.  Not cheap but very good quality.  I use a Rock-N-Roll cart at my gigs.  It folds nicely and fits in the car when not in use.  I have used it for nearly 10 years now.

I like this one :

https://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_voyager_keyboard_genos.htm?ref=search_rslt_genos+_418151_9

It has a High Density padding, of 20 mm (the last one from thomann, I used on T5 had 5mm, I think :D ) so this is much higher...
It has two nice pockets where you can insert your tablet (the small one) and the big one I think the music rest it will fit..

It does look nice.  However, this is good for young man like you.  For older folks, a soft case with wheels is easier to handle without a moving cart like the Rock-N-Roll Deane mentioned.

The Soundwear Stagebag Genos has 25mm padding, but unfortunately no weight information was mentioned.

Hi Paul.
Yes, you're right, is easier for folks older, over 50 I think. But I think there are also over 50 that could buy one of this, only for carrying space...
I want one of this, because it is smallest like one with wheels, and I have to carry on the back of my car. I have only an VW Passat 3C2, I don't have a mini-van :)
I like very much the Voyager Bag, but I have to wait. My Genos supplier promise me a "free of charge" bag, so I will wait :D

Unfortunately, the absolute best arranger keyboard case is no longer being made. I still have one, it is 12 years old, and reinforced with 1/4-inch plywood. It is very well padded, nearly crush proof and only weighs just a little over 10 pounds. Most of the hard cases I've had over the years weighed nearly as much as the keyboard, which was insane.

If you can find anyone that still has them in stock, here's a link to the old manufacturer's site: http://www.guardiancases.com/ck010.html

Hi Paul.

I use a Soundwear 88 for my Kawai MP11 Stage Piano.
It has good protection all around,  but especially on the top side, because of the exterior pockets for the music rest and whatnot.

My Soundwear 88 bag weighs slightly less than 5 Kg. So the Genos one should be even lighter.
I also have one for my Tyros. Both have protected my instruments for the last 3 years.

I drag them around almost everyday, loading and unloading them into my car. I put my Tyros on top of my Piano in the car.
And a foldable trolley on top of the Tyros. None have been damaged.

It is the wheels that absorb any impacts when you drag them.
I've  dragged them up and down pavements, stairs, etc.
I've done more damage to keyboards with my fingers than with any roller bags.

I hope this information is helpful.

Hi Pianoman,

Yes, I can see that the Soundwear Stagebags are very good quality product, provides decent protection, easy handling with wheels, extremely light too - great for frequent gig usage for professional musicians like you.

Unfortunately there is no importers / distributors of Soundwear Stagebags in the U.S.  Shipping cost of Soundwear Stagebag Genos starts at around US$40, which makes the final cost close to US$200.

Genos dimensions:
48-9/16” x 17-15/16” x 5-7/16”

For occasional move of Genos for home players, I found that the Yamaha YBA881 Artiste Series Keyboard Bag for 88-note keyboard very usable at US$55, with 14" shoulder strap, and weighing only 3.7 pounds:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CCMP0S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Genos in the Artiste Series Keyboard Bag for 88-note keyboard, total weight 32.4 lbs or 14.7 kg, lightest combo so far:

Photo showing Genos zipped up in the Yamaha Artiste Series Keyboard Bag for 88-note keyboard:

I walked around, up and down stairs, with this 32.4 lb / 14.7 kg Genos & keyboard bag combo and found it super light, very comfortable for occasional moves.

Thanks,
Paul

Hello again Paul.

I didn't know that Soundwear doesn't sell in the U.S.
I've looked at the Artiste Series pictures you posted links to, and they look good too.

Still, I was responding to the question about the weight of the Soundwear bag.
Since I own 2, I thought I might as well throw in my experience of their solidity, protection, and ease of use.
After three years, they still look as good as new.

Best Regards,
Pianoman.

Hi Pianoman,

The weight of Soundwear Stagebag Genos lighter than 5kg is great.  Your good experience with the build, quality, and protection for keyboards of the Soundwear Stagebags is great testimony of these products.  If the Soundwear Stagebag Genos is sold in the U.S. at lower price, I will not hesitate to buy it.

The Yamaha Artiste Series Keyboard Bag for 88-note keyboard has only 10mm interior padding, so it is definitely not suitable for the protection of Genos during frequent transportation, particularly in raining situations.  It is just a low cost option for home players for carefully executed infrequent moves of Genos.  I provided the photos so other members know that this one works for Genos.  The Artiste Series Keyboard Bag for 76-note keyboard on the other hand is too small for Genos.

Thanks for sharing your experience,
Paul

What about Gator, isn't that a good U.S brand?

Hi Pianoman,

Yes, Gator is a well known brand name for instrument bags and cases.

However, the Gator 76 Note Lightweight Keyboard Case (GK-76), which is perfect fit for Genos, is 25.4 pounds on its own.  So I immediately eliminated it from my list of bags / cases for Genos.

Plus one to your comment, I have 2 Guardian cases one is a 76 keymodel and the other a 61 key model.  The great news is Genos fits in the 76 model, neither Tyros would ever fit in the Guardian cases due to the depth of the Tyros.  Gotta say I’m really happy because the Guardian is the best case I’ve ever used.

I have the Gator GKB-76 carry bag.  It’s a perfect fit for the Genos and it’s light.  In fact it only weighs 7.5 lbs.

The Gator carry bag might be the best overall recommendation here, provided it's handles aren't too long. At 13kg, most won't feel the need to roll their keyboard. However, for those that do, the Soundwear is a great piece of kit. I have two bags from the same maker and both are top notch quality. In my own experience, the Gator wheeled cases are both very heavy (due to the steel frame) and provide surprisingly poor protection due to the thin fabric walls.

Hi JohnH,

The 76-note version may work for you - it will be much tighter fit, but I did not try it.  I bought the 88-note version because I also have a 26-lbs Casio Privia PX-560 88-note digital stage piano that may need it occasionally.
