New software "Revo Drum Cleaner"
« on: November 13, 2017, 09:17:15 PM »
Hi

Enjoy the "new" styles in your "old" keyboard without the "noise" sounds...

Clean style files using Revo Drums with my new software program "Revo Drum Cleaner" at http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software/rdclean/index.htm

Thanks to Peter - aka Xeenix - for participating in this project... "Where there is a will, there is a way"...   ;D  ;D  ;D

Hi

Seems you like the program...  ;)

I have done the programming, but a big "Thank you" to Peter (aka Xeenix) for calling on the program, for the engagement in development, and for testing the program.

Enjoy!

Jorgen,

You are a genius! Yes, you have started a revolution. For those of us that have to tweak new styles to work on our older products, the likes of you & Michael cannot be over appreciated.

Off course those that can simply go and purchase the latest & greatest will not appreciate all of this.

Thank you once again my kind friend,

Hi, guys!

I really appreciate the work of all that makes software for Yamaha, that helps those don't have money to buy a newer product.

Now, really exists even a "But" in all of this discussion here. The styles have the same writing, but the number of inserts, or type of inserted FX on some channels will definitely makes new keyboard sounds much much better than old ones. Not telling about new voices assigned to channels ;) You cannot tell me that sounds more better on older keyboard than new one. Ok, you use of a writing, but what matters in the end is THE SOUND, that's why we constantly upgrading ;)

Regards.

Of course, but we can also wait new functions, specially in style editing or style creation.
But Genos has a prehistorical editing with sounds and styles. And for the price, it's really disappointing ! Many people would like to be able to build their personal styles easily with "midi to style" functions as others machines like Korg Pa4X make it.
I think its not a great upgrade with Genos, to much missing functions. But it's only my opinion !

I tested the styles on my 970. Few of them could I fix by using the "Drumsetup" feature, when variations of snare and bass drum sounds are 2 octaves above and the style doesn't change instrumentation.
One I could fix with using the drum part of a session style and one had a drum mapping far far away from any GM, XG, GS standard.
One style had a useless drum part, but could be used to vary an audio style.
At least, it's the Tyros 5 style file format, but there are expected special drum kits.

I don't think any one has mentioned this yet but Revo Drums have recycling technology which means they are constantly changing in subtle ways which you won't hear on other keyboards. This is what makes them different to previous drum kits.

Hey Jørgen,

Thank you for your effort, and being so generous to share it with all of us.
This is very useful tool, but I think that there's a way not to lose that note information in the process of the converting.
Can I suggest an idea, if you allow me?

It's simple 'bulk' transpose on notes of my choice. Instead of setting their levels to 0, the notes would be simply transposed to the same type or their analog for my keyboard.

Example:
In some REVO Drums Kits Hi-Hats are on keys 13 to 22, that includes more than one versions of Closed, Pedal and Open Hi-Hats that can be subsequently divided and transposed on keys 42(closed), 44(pedal), 46(open) that will comply with any pre-Genos keyboards. Same rule could apply for extra Tom's, Snares, etc....per each REVO drum kit, since not all of them have the exact same drum mapping.

If I had the technical knowledge to write such software, I'll make it so it will allow me to describe each REVO Drum kit, transpose the notes to the ones of my choice, so I can later choose the closest sound-a-like drum kit for my keyboard.

I don't know how much of that is achievable with Java, but this is more or less my idea for improvement of such software as the one you've made.

Cheers!  :)

Hi

Thanks for commenting...

I am aware of the possibilty to re-map the drums.

However a scheme for this is not complete at the moment...

When this is available the programming part is straight forward...

Hi --

In order to speed up experiments with different note mappings, I wrote a note mapper experimenter's kit, i.e., a Java program to map notes in a MIDI file. The program is driven by two text files: a key (note number) map and a velocity map. You can edit the text files to try out different mappings.

Please, this is not a finished tool like Jørgen's. It is for experiments. I'm distributing the Java source code, too, so you can play with the code.

The ZIP file is at: http://sandsoftwaresound.net/java-note-mapper-v0-1/

Since the note mapper changes both MIDI note number and velocity, I think it can be used to change to/from Mega Voice notes, also.

Have fun -- pj

Hi,

Thank you for the revo drum cleaner. I've used it to clean many of my styles. There are a couple of styles that I'm not able to drum remap. Attached are two examples. Do you know how I can fix this? I'm using the "Remap ALL Drum Kit Types" option.

Thank you.

Hi.

You have to mention "other Yamaha keyboards", because Korg has it since PA3X... And if I remember well, it has 3 or 4 types of cycling oscillators...
