Genos X Psr s990
« on: October 05, 2017, 09:02:50 PM »
Hello everybody!

Buy a Genos or wait for the next "Psr s990"?
Of course Psr s990 does not even exist and we do not even know if it will exist.
But I wanted to talk about a particularity that I like in my PSR s970 and all the other PSRs that you can connect a microphone (PSR 740, 3000, s900, s910, s950 and now the sx70), they have speakers! You can not even imagine the difference it has made in my life. Before when I was going to rehearse, I needed to connect several equipment (Mix, Speaker, Amplifier, Equalizer, Effect) without counting the entanglement of cables. The first time I tried using the microphone on a yamaha keyboard, it was in the Psr 3000.
Since then my life has changed a lot, in the following points:
1. I just turn on the keyboard and start to sing and rehearse without having to connect any other equipment;
2) The keyboard itself is already my return of hearing when I perform my shows, which made me greatly decrease the equipment for return to the ears. Before I used another amplifier and another box just for the sound return;
3) Many shows, in apartments or small places, I do not need to carry any support equipment (Mix, Speakers, etc.), just the keyboard with your speakers, are enough to introduce me with good quality;
4) The "Cost X Benefit" issue also counts a lot.

Genos is a very good keyboard, so we are seeing (and still have a lot to know), but it does not have speakers (like the Tyros) which is a practicality of the PSRs.

Those who wish to manifest their opinions feel at ease.

Greetings,

Enildo

Genos is a very good keyboard, from what we see, and we still have a lot to know, but

You are right. The PSR is also a very good keyboard with great advantages, like little size and onboard speakers.

Hi Uli!
The quality of the PSRs, especially now with the S970, has improved a lot. The VH2, 512mb of samples, Live Control, accepts RX2, YEM, Audio Pads, etc ...
They lifted him to another landing.

I hope in the next Psr a Light Genos, as was said here in the forum.
And I think it would be interesting to wait and see.
When we have access to the Genos manual, I think we'll have a better idea of what's ahead.

What we know is that every new keyboard model is better than the last one.

Like others, I’ve owned a couple of Tyros models and sold them.  The S970 suits me just fine for the moment-----until the next PSR upgrade appears.  Hope they keep the built-in speakers, no matter what else they put on a new model.  I can’t think of new features I need-----just improved styles, voices, and a fantastic built-in sound system, for those occasions when external speakers are not needed.  And, maybe improvements to the vocal harmony section.  Make the design slick and impressive, with a big color screen and lots of colored button lights, like an airplane cockpit.  And, light weight.

I played several quiet house parties with just the PSR S970.
And once I was playing a weekly Sunday Brunch at a really large restaurant.  I first took two Bose Compacts, barely turning them on really.  Management said turn down.  Next week I took only one Compact.  Management said turn down.
The next week I took Logitech Z2200, barely audible.  You guessed it, management said turn down.  So I reached over an unplugged the sound system and just used the onboard speakers.  Management smiled and said "Just right".
Talk about an easy gig, just walk in with a small stand and the keyboard, plug in a mic and start working!  I stayed there for a few months and they changed Management!
Now Management said it wasn't loud enough...back to the drawing board.  I brought back the two Bose Compacts.  New Management said "Just right!"  "But we decided to stop the Sunday Brunch for a while."  I was actually glad because it was cutting into my golf time.  :)

I think the 970 was partly a direct predecessor of the Genos, all the new features of the S970 made it in the Genos.
The S970 even has the new hardware chips that are inside the Genos and Montage to.

That is why i assume the S970 is also on a 4 years release schedule now, just like Genos.
Which would mean a 2019 release.

What I expect from the new keyboard, whatever it should be, better support for MPE format, for better use for my ROLI Seaboard Rise. Right now I'm using a small program midiox and I can't find out, how my  PSR S750 should support dynamic aftertouch. May be this thing, solving, is sitting just somewhere under my nose, I dont know yet.
Otherwise, since touch sensitivity and pitch bender are already working with ROLI, I see a strong potential for Yamaha sounds in  the future.

Hi Enildo,

Am eagerly anticipating arrival of the new s970(990???).   Passed up Genos this year, as still am deep diving in the Tyros 5 and
acquired a dgx650 to satisfy the piano player in me.   Already told my dealer to put me 1st in line.  I do expect to hear Genos type
voice and drums.  Am not EDM oriented so very rarely touch those features.   However, the mic., audio wav files, and that Multi
pad audio link are current top hits with me.   Plus as Don mentioned those speakers suffice in many venues.   The new screen
is readable and the 970 has more ethnic type styles in the world section than the ty5.  Here in Israel, Yamaha delivery dates are
are 3 to 4 month after initial release.  Here's to a healthy 2018, 2019 and beyond.

cheers

I totally agree. Genos has some features from S770/S970 that are not on Tyros 5. That's partly why I can't really believe that Genos is 3x the price of S970 - it's a good keyboard, but not 3x as good.

I hope you are wrong about the upgrade cycle though, if S990 was released this year I think I'd be placing an order.

Hello everybody!
Thanks for the latest comments (Keyla, J. Larry, DonM, Spirit, Metsasarv, Elaine, and Drake)
Certainly the PSR line will be remodeled with the launch of Genos. I hope styles with Revdrums,
more Knobs (which can be saved in Registration Memory), the option to save custom drum kits in Drum Setup, 1GB of memory for samples.

Cheers

Maybe it's the quality factor.  better housing, better keybed with after touch, more connectors in the back.  The TOTL Tyros has always been a higher quality keyboard and better-built than the PSR S line.

I asked what Yamaha was in a relationship with Korg Pa700 / 1000. His answer was unambiguous...
