Sound Quality over Headphone same in S670, S770 & S970?
« on: September 08, 2017, 01:15:55 PM »
Hi All,
Is the Sound Quality same if you listen to PSR S670, S770 & S970 over the same headphone?
I think they all have the same sound chip (DAC) as they all have audio recorder, and for that, a certain quality DAC must be used.
Is the S670 & S770 sound quality same on headphone?
I find S670 headphone output not loud enough, and somehow sound quality a bit inferior to S710.
Thanks for your feedback in advance.

Hi Friend!
I would also very much appreciate if anyone could make that comparison and share it with everyone in the forum.
Very interesting your curiosity!

That would be difficult - maybe impossible- comparison as I doubt anyone has all three keyboards sitting around. I can say for certain though that headphone circuits likely do vary between models because I have compared headphone sound on current and previous CVP models and they were different.

@mikf

You are right, yamaha mid & high series does have separate amp circuit; to drive headphones, and they can be different acc. to models.
But, if somebody could connect the keyboard thru the Aux Out (line out) at the rear panel, then it bypass that headphone circuit and sound is directly put from the DAC i.c thru low level dual-amp ic (pre-amp), which does not effect S.Q. This is the only way to get the EXACT compare.
Although, you can get a rough idea of the S.Q factor even by headphone out.
The main power amp.( which drives onboard speakers) is changed, started from s650, s750 & s950 onwards, to be Digital Amps, which produces very less heat ( no heat sink required) and produces better sound quality with no 'hissing'. By the way, this was already implemented in earlier model of Korg PA500 I had. ;)

I'll love to put a 192Khz 48bit DAC in Yamaha though :)
