Merge CWN file in custom UVN voice
« on: April 25, 2017, 08:59:46 AM »
Hi,

Is there a way to save a custom (UVN) voice so that it includes any specific settings contained into its linked CWN file? When we did fine-tuning of these voices, the Tyros created these CWN files which as I understood by browsing this (awesome!) forum contain just the specific tweaking as MIDI events.

We could of course include the CWN along with the UVN, but then we would have to change their MSB/LSB/PGM on the fly to match the slot where the user is storing the voices; not very convenient.

Thanks for any info that could be of help.

Mariano

When fine tuning voices use the voice edit in the custom voice section and not in the user voice section then resave the voice back into it's slot. It will not then create a CWN as the edits will be saved as part of the voice.

Thanks for the info. Does it mean that if I export the UVN after that, then remove it from the Tyros, then import it again say under a different slot it will still have the customised settings?

As long as you have saved it to your hard drive or make a Library.

Hi Eileen,

A little late, but I got the following response from my guy:

"i tried to follow the exact way it is told in that psr tutorial link that you sent, but after all the editing when we press save, it jumps to user mode to save, and if i push the button back to preset, but then there is no save option. So as of now, this is not working."

Could you please explain if we are missing something?

Thanks!

Hi Mariano,

To edit a custom voice that is already stored in the Custom Voice Bank and save it as a UVN or UVD, you need to do the following:

1 ) The custom voice that you want to edit must be in R1, so load it to R1 just as if you were selecting it to play.

2 )  Press 'Voice Creator' and select 'Custom Voice Assembly' from the menu.  The display will show the elements used by that voice.

3 )  Press 'Voice Set' (lower 8 button) and the familiar Voice Set editing display will open.

4 )  Edit the voice set as required and press 'EXIT' to return to the 'Custom Voice Assembly' display.

5 )  Press 'Store' (J button) and the display will show the Custom Voice Bank, open at the page containing the voice that you started from with it highlighted.  You can accept this 'slot' and overwrite the original version of the voice, or you can choose a different 'slot'.

6 )  To save the modified version of the voice, press 'Store' (lower 6 button).  Enter a new name if required then press OK.

7)  Press 'EXIT' twice to return to the Voice Creator menu.

At this point the modified voice is stored in the Custom Voice Bank and will not be lost when the power is turned off.  However it is not yet saved as a UVN/UVD, so you need to do the following to actually make them.  However, if you prefer, you can edit further custom voices (as from instruction 2 above) if you want to (as long as you don't overwrite the ones that you have already edited!),  and save them altogether in the same library once you have finished editing.

To create UVN/UVDs from the edited voices:

8 )  From the 'Voice Creator' menu press 'Library Save' (C button)

9 )  Select one or more voices to include in the library and press 'OK'.

10 )  Select the drive (User, HD, or USB) and folder where you want the library and voices to be saved.

11 ) Press 'Save'  and name the library.   Press 'OK'  and  'OK' again to the message that appears.  This is the point where the UVN/UVDs are created from the modified voiced stored in the Custom Voice Bank.

A 'Library' file is also created and this can be used from the Voice Creator menu 'Library Load' option to automatically load all voices in that library into the same 'slots' that they were stored in when the library was saved.

However you can access and manage (delete, copy and paste to USB, etc) the individual UVN/UVDs in their storage location using 'Individual Load' from the Voice Creator menu.

One final thing to remember  when naming UVN and UVD files.  The T4 operating system will allow you to use long voice names when naming the actual files.  However it seems that it only uses the first 16 characters of the name when it loads one of them into the Custom Voice Bank.  So if you try to load a voice with the first 16 characters of it's name the same as a voice already loaded (even if it is in a different slot!), it will warn you that the voice is already loaded, and prevent you from loading the new one until you either delete the existing one, or change the name of the existing or new voice so that the first 16 characters differ in some way!

Thanks a lot for the detailed answer. We'll try what you suggested and come back if we face any additional problem.

Best wishes,
