FYI...

If the style is already using DSP1, then you don't have to assign it as the video shows.  Just insert the CC94 and then play the Pad to listen if the DSP 1 Send is at a value you like, adjust to your liking and then save.

Thanx Joe
But how would you be able to assign a D.S.P ,to INDIVIDUAL MultPads ?

BLONDEL,

Just as you demostrate in your video... Insert CC 94.  By doing that you are assigning DSP1 to an indiviual Pad.  The other 3 Pads will  not be assigned DPS1 until you insert the controller message in each one.

BTW... Multi Pads support almost ALL MDI controllers such as Attack, Release, Brightness, Harmonic Content, Portamento, etc ... this is undocumented.  they also support non-PSR/Tyros Bank Select and Program messages... meaning you can have an external sound source play your Multi Pads if your keyboard is connected via MIDI ports.

It would be nice if Yamaha offered more editing of Multi Pads in the Mixing Console like they do for styles and Song files.  It has been requested... maybe we will see it some day.  I bet they could do this with a firmware update.

UPDATE:  I believe only Reverb, Chorus and DSP1 are supported in Multi Pads.  You cannot assign any other DSP processors.

Well Joe , Thats the whole point of the video, to Assign  Delay-Fx to the INDIVIDUAL Multipads
As there are No MultiPads Factory preset,  with ROUTED - Delay fx. x

Also, by By-Passing the "D.S.P." page ,your restricting  your options, "On the Fly" X

BLONDEL,

You cannot assign DSP Types to Multi Pads.  The Multi Pads use the effects that are assigned to the CURRENT STYLE.  Multi Pads do not store DPS assignments, only the SEND values.  If DSP1 is assigned to Chorus 3 for a particular style, then any Multi Pad that has the CC94 inserted will have Chorus 3 applied to it if used with that particular style.  If the next style loaded has Auto Wah assigned to DSP1, then that same Multi Pad will have Auto Wah applied to the CC94 Send written in the Multi Pad file.

That's how the OS works.

Hi Joe
in your previous post you said :
BLONDEL,

Just as you demostrate in your video...
Insert CC 94.  By doing that you are assigning DSP1 to an indiviual Pad.
The other 3 Pads will  not be assigned DPS1 until you insert the controller message in each one.
.
Joe H

but in the above post you say : You cannot assign DSP Types to Multi Pads

----------------------

so i was bit confused by the contradiction.
But thankyou for making your point , because your right.

----------------------
i will have to update the Video-Tut, to use :ctl93,and then re-route the CHORUS Block to DELAY
then Save everything ,including the current-style, as a REGISTRATION.
Would you agree with that ?
x

Since a lot of folks are reading this thread, let's be clear.

Yes... semantics is always a potential problem when posting.  I was saying the only way to assign DSP 1 to a Multi Pad is to insert CC94.  But I'm also saying you cannot assign the DSP1 Effect Type to a Multi Pad (only the Send value)

The "Devil is in the details"   ;D

Thank you for the great tutorial.

I just tried to use CC94 (DSP send) + DSP1 instead of Chorus effect which can be used by all voices, like reverb effect.
It works. And I think DSP1 is not used by voices.

Effectively, as soon as DSP1 effect choice changes, multipad sound changes too.

BLONDEL,

The simple style I made from your MIDI file could be the foundation for making a complete style. It needs all the other "Sections"... Intros, Ending, Fill Ins and Break.

Side Chaining:  I added 2 more Parts to the simple style (see attached) Chord 2 and Pad both use Expression (Controller 11) to create the side Chaining effect.  I also edited the drum track notes on channel 10. This is a little different than what you want to accomplish.

It sounds like what you want to do is create syncopated notes to get the kick to "duck" the bass notes.  This could be done in a sequencer that supports time-shift.  In other words, you move (shift) notes forward or backward in time on a track to play counter to other notes.  This can probably be done in MixMaster as well. The download with my article has a couple of examples of Pumper Bass Multi Pad Phrases that use time shift and Expression (I think).

For MIDI (and styles) Expression is used to create the pumping action, Brightness and Harmonic Content create the sweeps that create a muffled or muted sound slowing shifting to a brighter sound and then back again.  Harmonic Content sweeps along with the proper Brightness settings, are used to create the wah wah effect in MIDI.

Attached are screen shots from StyleMagic showing a graphic representation of the Side Chaining  and also the Filter Sweep accomplished in the Pad Part of the style using MIDI controllers.

Regards,
Joe H

Yamaha have been using the Groove feature for a long time now. I myself have posted grooved styles in the past.
If you are wanting to create the complete style grooved then you must select all. If you follow the video you will only have grooved one part and this will sound strange when changing variations.
