Hello friends :)
Today I played my S975 as a piano for the first time, and discovered that one of the keys behave strangely.
In default octave range it plays normally; and also if I put the octave up, but if I put the octave down the note sometimes comes out with a loud pop! With "pop" I mean that the piano voice get very loud for a split second, and then goes back to normal. If I play softly, I am able to avoid it, but if I press hard, the loud noice comes. Not every time, but often. All other keys produce normal piano sound in all octaves. Is the keyboard broken, or is this sometning that can happen? Never noticed anytning strange with the key when playing with styles and other voices! For all I know it has been like this for the 3 years that I have had it.

Does the “loud pop” sound occur when the key is pressed as part of a chord?

No. Single press. If I press many times the pop will come.

Hi Toril,
Is the same physical key always affected? So if you transpose the keyboard up or down with the Upper Octave button (but press the same key) does the error sound at a higher or lower note?

Chris, it is the same physical key, and it only happens when I transpose one octave down! Strange!

Keypad is dirty with carbon deposits. You can clean it with a dry Q-tip and this will probably solve the problem.

It is a black key, Gary. It only happens when I transpose one octave down, other ocaves the key sounds fine.

I still think this may be the problem, though I cannot be absolutely sure. Sometimes a blast from canned air under the keypad is all it takes to correct the carbon deposit problems. You would be amazed at how many problems that only a tiny bit of carbon deposits can cause.

The problem is now there in all octaves. I will try the air. I hate for my keyboard to be opened!

Got my keyboard back today. The problem was that a rather considerable ammount of dog hair had found their way into the keyboard!!! So Yamaha is not at fault here. We can say that the keyboard had a bad hair day😀

;D HAHA Funny in a way, but something to think about. Maybe a dust covers?

So... does that mean your dog is playing your arranger when you are not around?

Joe H, yes, I suspect her of liking my keyboard much better than my accordion😀😀😀🎹🎹
