Title: A New SX update ?
Post by: Jeff Hollande on September 18, 2021, 05:08:11 PM
Hi  :

The latest Genos update
has been launched very recently.

Am I a dreamer when I am hoping a new SX update may be expected soon ?

Cross my fingers.

Hi Bill  :

Maybe I am wrong but ... what about the Genos 2.02
update ? Old or new ?

Best wishes, JH

The SX will only be updated if there is something that needs fixing as they always do.

If Yamaha finds there are no more bugs to correct, probably there will be no more updates and that, in a very practical way, is a sucess for the brand. Also if they release a 2.0 update, like they did with Genos - with more functions and options - who would buy their flagship?...

Of course we all would love if that would happen but it is unlikely.

I think we could see something different on the SX900, more than just a bug fix.
Like for example adding a decent sequencer in the "Song Creator" with professional editing tools.

On the other hand, it would also be of vital importance to be able to do direct sampling on the keyboard, and also to have the necessary tools for editing / creating deep sound.

the sx900 has a fairly large user memory (4GB) this space can be used to save our samples created on the keyboard.

Also for the price paid for this instrument (which is NOT cheap) I think we deserve a major software update.

Hi Hans  :

It would be a real dream if Yamaha should follow your updating
software suggestions and ideas but ... I feel very sorry ... I am afraid ... it will not happen, I guess. 😳 😥

Best wishes, JH

Hi Francesco  :

Will YEM still exist ( in the near future ) when the present SX and Genos arrangers will be replaced by new successors ?

Regards, JH

In my opinion, as a suggestion for Yamaha, a good starting point would be to update the "Drum Setup" feature with the ability to save at least your custom drum kit. I understand that it can be done with YEM (although not with Revo Drums), but you know how I feel, I've said it several times: for me YEM should not exist as it is poor of functions, buggy, inaccurate, precarious, and that above all it doesn't use the sound engine of the keyboard directly, as the legendary Tyros4 did. YEM or a similar software should be integrated into our instruments, can you imagine the efficiency (and precision!) that we would have in creating our sounds?

Francesco

Very good point Francisco!!

That is why I have proposed direct sampling on the keyboard (No Yem) using the following formats: Wav, Aiff, SoundFont2, Yamaha.
And of course also adding editing tools such as: time slice, sampling function, complete editing.

Now in the "Song Creator" professional editing tools are required such as: Copy From Song, Track ChangeControl / Tempo, Eraser Measure, Event edit, Copy / Bounce Track, Delete Measure, Insert Measure, Repeat Measure, Copy Measure, Move Measure, Create / Erase Control, Quantize, Shift / Erase Note, Modify Velocity, and Rename Track.

With these additions we would have a powerful arranging workstation, without the need for external software.

Greetings.

Hans

But if you want a powerful workstation why would you not buy one instead of an arranger? I truly believe that the vast majority of arranger buyers don’t need or want it to become a complicated workstation. Doing so could lose more buyers than it gains.
I have a CVP and although many of the features of a workstation and even a Genos are missing, it has all I need 98% of the time, and I suspect that would be true for a large majority of arranger players.
Of course there is the odd occasion when I could maybe use a feature I don't have, but then there have also been one or two occasions when I bought something that wouldn't fit in my SUV. But not enough for me to seriously want my SUV to be a pick-up, otherwise I would have bought a pick up!
