Title: Clacking key.
Post by: Toril S on July 29, 2021, 04:28:43 PM
Hello friends.
There have been some posts about the "clacking" keys on the S975, and yes, they make some noise, but I have gotten used to it. However, the leftmost white key is clacking more than the others. If I press it hard, I hear a rather loud clacking sound. But the key is functioning normally, no problem there. I have no technical skills, so I am NOT going to open the keyboard. I read somewhere that the keyboard has to be taken apart to fix keys, and consider this a little overkill since the key is functioning properly. BUT, I wonder, will it get worse? Anything I can do? I think it has been like this from the day I got it, but I didn't discover it for some time.

If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it! Clacking keys are nothing to worry about and there are several other brands that really clack loud when played, particularly the Roland G-70. Not something to worry about and the audience will never hear it.

From experience: just let it clack. turn up the volume if you need to.

Customer brought in a PSRs970 with a dead key (the very bottom C). long story short; everytime I opened it up and reseated everything, a different set of keys would misfire (for the techies out there, yes it seemed like out one of the ribbon cables wires was snapped, based on the misfiring keys being on the same contact); That was beyond me, so Yamaha took it themselves to repair it... and it was sent it back 3 times because again, each time, a different key(s) would misfire, even with new ribbon cables. They ended up replacing *both* the MKH and MKL boards (that send the keypresses to the CPU)

In other words, it's a whole can of worms.
