I am concerned my new Genos has been incorrectly loaded. My default style is "Skypop" but I believe it should be "Cool8beat". Could someone please confirm this.

Yes, SkyPop is the correct default style.

Cool8beat is default on T5.

FYI 
SkyPop is also the default style on the SX-900
