Title: mystery SX700
Post by: Gios on February 20, 2021, 12:52:17 PM
hi
many voices do not work with sustain pedal,
but work with panel sustain 'voice effect'.
Is there anyone who can tell me why?
thank you.

Hi Gios,

these are two completely different things:

• When the Sustain Pedal is pressed, the notes that are sounding at that time behave the same as if you were holding down the relevant key. The so-called "Sustain Phase" of the programmed ADSR volume envelope (Attack-Decay-Sustain-Release) is maintained, and the "Release Phase" (usually audible when the key is released) only becomes audible for the relevant tones when the pedal is released .

• "Panel Sustain" is something completely different: When this function is switched on, the "Release Time" of each affected Voice is slightly extended, depending on how this is defined in the so-called "Voice Set" of each individual Voice (in "Voice Edit > Common > Panel Sustain").

You could also achieve the same effect WITHOUT the "Panel Sustain" function switched on by slightly increasing the value of the "Release" (= Release Time) parameter for the respective Voice in "Voice Edit > Sound".

Important: Changes that you make in "Voice Edit" must either be saved with "Save" as a so-called "User Voice", or you can simply save them with a Registration.

You can find important information on the subject of "Voice Edit" in the SX700 Reference Manual, from page 46.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

therefore the definition of SUSTAIN on 'VOICE EFFECT' is wrong.
it should be written 'RELEASE' ....
But in any case why some voices don't work with the 'SUSTAIN PEDAL'.
But for what reason ...
Thank you.

Because that voice would not have sustain.

that is, I must believe that it is normal that the sounds
of the 'Choir & Pad' section are right that the SUSTAIN does not work,
while those of the 'Synth' section function .....
For me this SX700 is a mystery !!!
many incongruities' !!!!

p.s.
the SUSTAIN works on all the sounds of all the sections,
while only on Choir & Pad, it doesn't work.
Huge BUG like a palace !!!!
YAMAHA FIRMWARE update is required !!!

That does not sound right. Check the polarity of the sustain pedal. Or maybe a registration have messed things up?

I think the problem persists, but I solved at least partially with a second pedal and activated the parameter 'SOSTENUTO'.
It's not the same, but there are no alternatives!
thank you all.
