Title: Clavinova repair
Post by: MadrasGiaguari on February 11, 2021, 04:11:43 PM
Dear friends,

I like to share the experience I'm having with Yamaha service.

I own a 2005 CVP 309 PE (besides a brand new Genos) that recently started to show the common problem with keys contacts (some key, when hit, plays at maximum volume only, and therefore lost any intermediate velocity).
This thing happened to a central D, and also to the keys I normally play for the style accompaniment (where I use the dynamic volume control function).

Contacted Yamaha service in Roma (that's where I live), they will do the work at my home on Saturday, next week (Monday-Friday they only work at their lab; and Saturday of this week was already busy): it looks a quite fast action.

The price (parts and labor, plus outside call) is 300 Euros, plus Iva. Less than 1 hour work.

To bring at their lab, there was a 100 Euro saving, but needed to pay someone to bring the Cvp at their lab, only the upper part, and to bring it back home, after 2 weeks. I was also supposed to disconnect the upper part and then to set it back.

For a digital piano that was very expensive (as it is now also, for CVP 809), I believe that is a reasonable cost. And the piano will be almost as new.

They will also bring the keys felts parts, may be to be replaced also (40 additional Euros).

I'm happy that Yamaha provides full assistance for a model produced 15 years ago. And love the home service.

The Yamaha Service technician -responsible for Roma area- came on Saturday to fix my Clavinova.

He spent most of the time to disassemble the Clavinova (very, very, very complicated work; I would never do it on my own), and disconnected the keyboard from the rest.
At that point he proceeded to replace all the rubber contacts, and also replaced the long soft stripe along the full keyboard.
The repair lasted for little more than one hour.

The result is excellent: the keyboard is as new.
I asked how long the contact can remain in order. He said it depends from various factors (dust, temperature, humidity, usage, ecc.). 5 years could be a reference time. Sometimes the contacts last in order for longer time.
