Title: Minimum flash expansion to install expansion packs?
Post by: Synthfan on December 08, 2020, 01:28:32 AM
My T5 has no added flash memory yet. I am interested in adding all sorts of international expansion packs (with eastern european, irish, african, etc. instruments) but I don’t need to have them all simultaneously loaded.

Will a FL512M suffice, to allow me to start adding packs?

Yes that would allow you to *start* adding packs. The size of packs varies -  as a very rough guide, smaller "official" ones are around 50MB, larger around 100MB.

You might fill it up quite quickly though once you get into it. 1GB would be a better bet, 2GB if you can afford it *and* expect to hold on to the T5 for a while since they are quite expensive.

You can see the individual sizes of each package in the picture.

Remember also that if you have the small memory and create lots of install files containing several packs each one will take around 20 minutes to load because it formats the memory before loading a fresh pack. This is why 2Gb is the best option.
