Post by: Moontom on November 28, 2020, 08:35:44 PM
I have a bunch of packs on my old computer and was hoping to use the new computer to communicate with Genos. what do I need to do to make this happen? I've done a backup for Registrations and audio files but I'm still worried. thanks in advance for any/all assistance...

You can do this very easily and efficiently. Watch this video and do the same.

ok Casper is there an easier way?

all I want to do is copy the YEM as it exists on old computer to the new computer....this method seems way more complex than necessary!

Hi Moontom,

are you talking about Windows PCs or Mac computers?

If you are on Windows: What are the Windows versions of the old and the new PC?

Which YEM versions are curently installed on the PCs?

There IS a relatively easy method to bring the complete YEM User data from the old to the new PC. But please answer my questions first.

Best regards,
Chris

The easiest way to copy the installed YEM packs to another Windows computer:

1. Close the YEM.

2. Press the "Windows key"+"R" to open the "Run" window.

3. Type or copy the following string into the "Run" window, then click "Ok".

%LocalAppData%\Yamaha\

4. This opens the folder  "C:\ Users\ <YourUsername>\ AppData\ Local\ Yamaha\"

5. On the right side of the Explorer window you see the "Expansion Manager" folder. COPY this folder to a connected USB Stick.

6. Repeat the steps 1- 4 on the other PC, so that you are at the mentioned path (inside the "Yamaha" folder).

7. DELETE the current "Expansion Manager" - (or RENAME the folder e.g. to "Expansion Manager OLD")

8. COPY the "Expansion Manager" folder from the USB stick into the "Yamaha" folder on the PC.

9. Run the YEM program: All your Packs should be there, just like in the YEM on the old PC.

That's right, Stijin,

exactly that procedure is shown in the video I posted. There is an introductory part of the video and after 02:30 the procedure you describe is shown. Admittedly, in a slightly different way, but the essence is the same. That is the best and fastest way.

Of course, include English subtitles.

aha yes I understand that procedure now. Casper's method is indeed the same -- I got intimidated when it came to overwriting system files.

I'm on a windows 10 in both cases...and both have the latest YEM software.

thanks!

Hi Moontom,

Stijn has kindly already posted "my" method. :)

(Basically there are several ways to open the storage location of the YEM User folder. However, since the "AppData" folder is hidden by default, the method I originally described, using the system variable "%LocalAppData%", is probably the easiest.)

P.S. It is recommended that the same YEM version is installed on both PCs before copying the YEM User folder to another PC. (Hence my questions above.) But, as you say, this is already the case with your PCs anyway.

Best regards,
Chris
