Title: Expansion Module V2.3.2. not Working
Post by: HerbieK on November 02, 2020, 04:57:28 AM
Hello!
My Tyros4 "Instrument_id.n26" added to USB won't be read on my Expansion Module  V2.3.2 This one asking for id.n.27
I'm not able to find any Older version. I think, I have to use some of the 128 Slots... Premium Voices would Not fill any Slots Right?  Greetings from Canada, Herb

Hi Herb,

by "Expansion Module V2.3.2" you probably mean an earlier version of the "Yamaha Expansion Manager" (YEM) program. (The latest version is 2.7.0 at the moment.)

Unfortunately I have to inform you that the Tyros4 is NOT yet compatible with the YEM, but only models from Tyros5 and PSR-S970/770 can use this current technology.

The YEM can only use models as "Install Target" which can generate an .n27 file ("Instrument Info"). The Tyros4, on the other hand, exports an .n26 file ("Instrument ID") with which the YEM can of course not do anything.

With the Tyros4, the .n26 file was only required when purchasing Premium Voices / Packs: The file had to be uploaded once to the Yamaha server. A .n25 "License Key" file was created there. You then have to download this .n25 file and import it into the Tyros4 so that you can install the Premium Packs/Voices you have purchased.

Currently, since the conversion of the "YamahaMusicSoft" website (yamahamusicsoft.com) to "shop.usa.yamaha.com", there are obviously NO Tyros4 Premium Packs/Voices offered by Yamaha anymore.

... Premium Voices would Not fill any Slots Right?  ...

Yes, you are right here: On Tyros4, Premium Voices do NOT fill any of the 128 Custom Voice Slots. But, of course, Premium Voices still need storage space in the "Flash ROM Expansion Memory Module" (which is optional on the Tyros4).

If you are looking for new Expansion Voices for the Tyros4, you should look for Voices in the .uvn (Custom Normal Voice) and .uvd (Custom Drum Voice) format. These Voices are loaded with "Individual Load". To load complete "Libraries" (a compilation of .uvn/.uvd Voices) "Library Load" is used. However, this overwrites the 128 Custom Normal or the 20 Custom Drum Slots beforehand. (You should therefore save the previous Custom Voice assignment with "Library Save".)

You can find many free .uvn/.uvd Voices on the internet. But be warned: a Google search will produce a large number of "fake" sites as results, which in many cases can even be dangerous. It is therefore essential to use an up-to-date virus scanner program on your PC.

On this French site you will find e.g. some .uvn/.uvd voices:
>>> http://fred17.eklablog.com/voices-tyros-et-voices-diverses-c25836400

(There are also many .ppf Voices available on this site. But this format can only be used on YEM-compatible models, so NOT on Tyros4.)

Note: Tyros2 Custom Voices (.tvn/.tvd) are also compatible with the Tyros4. But these must first be converted into the Tyros3/4 format (.uvn/.uvd) using the "Tyros3 Voice Converter" (available free of charge from Yamaha).

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Tyros 4 has never used the YEM as it is a completely different system. With Tyros 4 you had a disk with a programme on it that allowed you to create your own voices etc.

I Like to thank you, Eileen and Overover, very much. I do understand it now much better. What I was looking for was a Jodel_Legato voice.UVN and the Tyros 3,4 had a Premium Entertainer Voice Pack. "robbiedoes.nl" play those with a Walt's Medley.
Now, it is no big deal for me, I'm playing just at home, I could use Robbies Recording, I download his .Mp4 File :), and play along with it. ;) I'm now 92 years of age, maybe I asking to much. Best Wishes to all Music Friends. Herb
