Title: Need help with Mr Bojangles
Post by: Fred Smith on September 21, 2020, 09:58:21 PM
Mr Bojangles has great bass runs thoughout most of the piece. The question is how do I play them?

Is there a style for the song with the bass runs built in? Assuming no, what style do you recommend with the song. I'm currently leaning towards CountryWaltz.

For me to play the song, I don't have enough dexterity to play the chords live. Do I record a chord looper, and let it play the chords? If so, what do I do with my left hand?

Or, can the chord looper play the chords, and I play the bass? Like, if I the recorded chord is F, and I play an E, will it come out as F/E?

Thanks for any help you can give,
Fred

Hey, Fred !

I recorded Mr Bojangles awhile back using a version of the Yamaha style I called Country Waltz 4 in  my style library.  There are several tweaked versions of it in the style collections on the PSR website.  You can hear my rendition of the tune using this style on my performers page on the PSR website.  Good Luck !!!

Fred,
did you try out the Slow JazzWaltz style in Jazz category? (Genos)
Intros / Ending don't fit, but vari. C is useful for that song if adjust the tempo and maybe tweak a bit to your taste.

If think special made style, there is a style (Robbie Williams version) at Doo site.

If you're fast enough and accurate enough with your chords and if the bass line in the style will react to every chord played, you can use AI fingered mode and a series of 'slash chords' or 'AI chords' to coax the keyboard into playing the bass notes you want.

Thank you all for your replies. Very useful.

Andy, I'll think I'll try AI Fingering so see if I can handle it. It would mean I would have to remove Fingering from Parameter Lock, but maybe I could live with that.

Thanks for the style, Piet.

Gunner, I like your jazz waltz suggestion.

Will be interesting to see what I end up with.

Thanks,
Fred

Hallo Fred

the best solution is to use the Easycountryballad style. It is a fresh and modern style

I am also sending you a selection of styles as well
you will notice the differences.

Best wishes

That style is 4/4, and the song is 3/4, so that doesn’t work for me.

Cheers,
Fred
