Title: Connecting with the xternal keyboard
Post by: bhergar56 on September 15, 2020, 03:03:12 PM
Hello all,

Is it possible to connect an external keyboard to the psr sx700/900 in order to make use the psr voices instead of the its own voices? Do each of the keyboards (external and psr) will sound at the same time with the psr sx700/900 voice setup? If so, how many voices will sound at the same time? What midi parameters should be programmed or be aware to do this?

thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

Regards.

you have to make a midi setup
Look for the zend midi channel on the external keyboard
Search the recieve channel on the main keyboard
set this channel on keyboard

You don't say which keyboard. Using midi you can set up an external keyboard to functions in several different ways providing the keyboard has midi capability. Essentially it can become a controller keyboard for the PSR, and can play style accompaniment, main voices whatever. Depends how you set it up. So if you use a digital piano, you can have a full 88 key touch sensitive keyboard drive everything on the PSR, because like a mini Clavinova. You can also have them both sound at the same time.

You have to start with a basic setup
The external keyboard controlled the main keyboard
When you understand how it works start whith your own setups
There are 1000nds way's  to make special setups

Thanks all for your response, I have my old Kawai K1 Digital Synthesizer, and what I would  like is to connect via midi cables, this keyboard to my new sx900, and the idea is that the kawai use and utilize the voices of the sx900 witch off course are much richer and better, in this case I suppose that the sx900 is the main controller? and the kawai is the slave?  What should be my first step for connecting these two keyboards?

I am supposing that having the two keyboards connected, gives me the opportunity to have 3 voices in the sx900 plus the style,  and another different and additional voice  in the kawai, I don't know if this is correct or Im having a wrong idea.

thanks again for your support and help, I will be experimenting to see how it works.

best regards.

Hi bhergar56,

I'll try to describe the simplest possible MIDI connection. The following settings are necessary so that you can control the SX900 with the Kawai keyboard. (The Kawai keyboard then behaves exactly like the internal SX900 keyboard.)

1. Connect the DIN MIDI OUT of the Kawai to the DIN MIDI IN socket of the SX900 using a MIDI cable (5-pin DIN plugs on both ends).

2. Make sure that the Kawai is transmitting on MIDI Channel 1 (= usually standard).

3. On the SX900: Press "Menu > MIDI" and make sure that the Preset MIDI template "All Parts" is selected (at the top, in the middle of the MIDI display).

4. Press the "Receive" tab to call up the "Receive" display.

5. In the first line of the list you should see that the Channel "Port1 Ch1" is set to the Part "Song".

6. Now change the Part in this (top) line to the setting "Keyboard".

7. Press the right-pointing arrow to the right of "Part" to view additional settings.

8. You will see that ALL ticks are set in all five columns (Note, CC, PC, PB, AT).

9. In the first line (for "Port1 Ch1") remove the two ticks for "CC" and "PC" (which means "Control Change" and "Program Change"). This is necessary to avoid accidentally switching something on the SX900 when selecting voices / sounds on the Kawai.

10. Now you have to save the changed MIDI setting of the SX900: To do this, press "Save" in the MIDI display. Use a meaningful file name such as "KawaiMaster".

11. Finally, please make sure that your newly created User MIDI template is now SELECTED (instead of "All Parts"). Only then will it be automatically reloaded after the SX900 is restarted.

12. Done! :)

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Thanks a lot overover, IŽll put it in practice tonight as soon I get over the instruments. Hope I can do it well.
