Title: Music App suggestion
Post by: mick47willis on April 06, 2020, 06:34:36 AM
Gday..thinking about using as app like Garageband or some such to do some basic backing tracks for my E233...
Apparently Garageband is good but is only for Macs
and I have Windows laptop.
Be happy with 3 or 4 instruments  to play with...preferably  free..
Any suggestions for a beginner
Cheers Mick

Do you have an ASIO-capable audio interface for your laptop?
You really need one to be able to play VST instruments in real time. There's a "generic low-latency ASIO driver" for Windows but it's not brilliant, in my experience.
If you do, I would recommend trying Tracktion Waveform (there's a free version now) and Native Komplete Start (also free).

I suppose I should add that your laptop would need to have a fairly powerful (ideally i5 or i7) CPU as well...

Beside Audacity I would strongly suggest Reaper DAW. Its free to evaluate indefinitely and quite easy to setup and use. You can get a temporary "social distancing" licence valid till Wed Jul  1 2020. Most people buy a discounted 60USD licence for individuals with less then 20K of revenues.

Check it out here:

...or go simple with Audacity:
