Title: What's Wrong With These Styles
Post by: murrayb on December 24, 2019, 06:12:31 PM
I've provided lots of help with YRM, but now I need some help.

I'm attaching two styles (there maybe more I haven't checked every one) that worked fine with my S900, Tyros 4 and S970, but I get the dreaded message "Data didn't load properly" on the Genos.

Does anyone have an idea why this would happen?

Murray

I get the same error.
Style Revoicer reports  'Invalid MIDI Part', but no further details.

Changing STY to MID doesn't help either. The Midi can't be opened.

There is a fault in the Header
the file start with  iHTB that is wrong must be MHTB
You need a style editor to fix the styles
You have also to check the drive where the styles are on on faults
or format him
save all data first

Hi Murray,

In both styles the first character of the file (which is part of the MIDI Header) was wrong (it was different for each style)!

I used a Hex Editor to change it in both files and they now both load and play on my Genos.   I have not saved them from Genos so the remainder of each style has not been changed.

Thanks Fellows:

That's exactly what I needed.  I've gone through one directory with the hex editor and 32 out of 100 files had the problem.

The files were fine in my Tyros 4 HD backup.  There was no pattern at all, completely random among the files, and random on the first character.  Something happened between computer and USB drive.

Computers!!!!

Merry Christmas

Hi Murray,

If you have other folders to check, you might like to try scanning them with Jørgen Sørensen's 'MIDI and Style File Checker' program to find any problem styles.

http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software/midicheck/index.htm

I have run your problem files through this, and it does flag them as having errors, although this program doesn't tell you what the error is.

It also doesn't fix problems, but there is another of his programs, 'Style Fixer' which will attempt to fix common files errors.  I think that this program overwrites the original files so it would be prudent to make a backup of the originals.

You better take a look at the drives you use
Bad sectors corrupt data
The best is format the drives with the order mark bad sectors
It can be also a vires

Hi

Just to correct...
The MIDI header is "MThd"

http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/articles/midi_5.htm

The fastest way is correct in a hexidecimal editor. However the Style Fixer program will do the job too!
