Hi guys.
I want to share a nice modification that I made to my S770 in the last days, that it seems to have improved a lot the keybed feeling. I didn't unscrew anything, I just used the space that it exists under the keys, at the front part. I have used insulation for windows from Lidl store, from the "powerfix" series products.
This one has an air space into the rubber part, so it doesn't add any elastic feeling at the keys, but it works as shock absorber for the keys, as you hit them to the bottom. So now they don't feel like you hit your fingers on wood anymore and this makes the keybed much more comfortable to play! They feel more robust.
The touch of keys at the rubber is just about 1mm, only when they bottom out, so this mod doesn't affect the keys travel.I have upload a small video that shows this in action, so check the bellow link. :)

Doesn't this just work with the white keys? I don't see how the sharps or flats are affected.

Yes, that improves only the white keys, that they seem to have the major "wood" feeling issue. The black ones doesn't seems to be so bad. I just push them in the video, to show the difference between them and the white ones.

And this has no effect on the touch velocity?

It doesn't affect the touch velocity, because it comes in touch with the keys only about half millimeter, at the bottom of the movement, so it acts as absorber, but without blocking the move of the key.
You can try it and if you don't like, you can remove it easily.

Hi Arvacon. I'm about to take delivery of a 970. Should I be worried? I was recently trying out a 670, through headphones, and my good lady told me all she could hear was the clack clack clack of the keys. I realise it was a 770 you modified, but any advice would be helpful. The Yammie is coming from a supplier many miles from me so I haven't actually played it. It is going to be delivered to my daughter who is then going to have it shipped abroad for me. She lives a lot closer to it's final destination. The freight cost should be less, hopefully! I won't lay a finger on it till late May. Thanks in advance. Lenzieman.

There is no reason to worry. The keybed of 770 and 970 are the same. I wouldn't say that the keys are noisy. I did this modification just because I want them to feel softer at the hit, when they bottom out.
So don't worry for the noize.

For Info: KORG Pa1000 fit thin metal plates under each white key which helps key feel.

If you are using headphones then you would not hear the noise coming from the keys but if playing very softly you will hear it at times. Pleased to say they have now changed the key bed on the new SX series and they no longer rattle.

My 670 was very clacky but my 775 is not. I shined a light under the keys and there is a black rubber strip under the keys. I presume this was added when Yamaha went from the 70 to the 75 series. I like the new quiet and cushioned keybed very much.
