It has the Motif key-bed without the After Touch. We are waiting for a report from Frank at Audio Works in the USA about the key bed. He would know about the differences since he sells a lot of Yamaha keyboards.

Copped this quote from the Yamaha USA web site:

"The new FSB Keyboard offers remarkable playability thanks to its heavier initial key resistance and greater key travel. The refined keyboard structure, with an adjusted fulcrum, allows you to play comfortably even on the backs of the keys whilst upgraded components suppress horizontal key movement."

How it actually compares with existing Yamaha models will, no doubt, be the subject of much discussion.  ;)

All the best -- pj

P.S. Tyros 5 is FSX, as is Genos.

I had a short chance to try the keybed on a PSR-SX900 and it is much much better than my PSR-S770's keybed.
Pretty close to Genos keybed to my experience with it. Not enough try out time to conclude on that though.

According to the published specs of the keyboard, no aftertouch. (did not try this myself)

Right @Dnj, according to the specifications of Yamaha Sheet:
Keybeds:
Organ, FSX (Motif)
Organ, FSX (Genos)
Organ, FSX (Tyros 5)
Organ, FSB (SX 900)
Organ, - (S975)

I guess the keybed-feeling is 'between' the S-line and the Topline?? We will notice in shorttime. For me it's OK. ;)

Does anyone know the technical difference between a FSX and an FSB keybed ??

The Yamaha representative told me that Genos and the new SX line had the same keybed, only difference being that on Genos it was in a metal frame, while on the new SX line it was in a plastic housing/frame ...

Is he right? Does anyone know ?

I like Psr-s keybeds the most, mostly due to shallow (short) key travel, they’re the most playable for me.
I’m actually looking for a midi controller with Psr-s keybed.
Anyone know what keybeds are those ?

The SX900 key bed is really nice and it dose not clonk like the 970 used to so now when you play quietly you only here the notes you are playing without the rattle.
I thought you had an SX900 Donny so you would know this.

One of my friends has changed the entire key bed after one month to S770 cause of plastic noise (crank)
My S970 was the same but I choose to ignore, was worst key bed possible (Organ)
Now I have SX900; 2 month old, of course big step in front (from zero reference) any kind of noise how Eileen say to the beginning.
I can say to much silence compare with my second keyboard PA1000.
Yesterday I found 3 keys with (nice) plastic noise, if will work probably I will ignore again, I don't have time to fight with Yamaha.
I don't have heavy hands when I play (only at home) I like soft touch.
Big disappointing for me.
Sorry!

Mihai

The keybed of the XS series is slightly better than on my S975, but I play accordion, so used to shallow keybeds.

I don't find the new keybed to be any quieter than its predecessor. I do find it less flimsy. It's easier to play the notes with my intended velocity.

Maybe the words was too much, sorry again, I, m just disappointed and try to joke about the situation.
It is like Tesla car : silence, silence and after crank crank some plastic not OK.

Hey folks for what its worth....I have had lots of keyboards and organs too,,,,Back in 1980's the Yamaha HS series had really nice keybeds, so Yamaha has been doing this for a while. I have had Korg, Kurzweil, Yamaha (T2) and some MIDI kbds along the way.
Before the SX-900 came along the MAIN reason I would not buy a PSR was the lack of a quality keybed. I am happy now as I think the SX-900 keybed is really nice. Very useable and very quiet and solid. Yeah to Yamaha for doing this!. And the sound of the SX 900 is really top notch. So for now I am very happy, some day IF my playing is warranted I may get a Genos...I like aftertouch for Orchestral voices and 76 keys is very nice, along with even better sound.

For my fingers, the shallower the key-press the better my playing is.
Accordion keys are perfect for me, I wish keyboards had accordion type of keys

Agreed. It took some time for me to adjust to the keybed of Tyros.
