I have several midi files that are not recognized on the PSR S975
Seems like if I make the names short, then I am able to see them. so I am wondering if there are any restrictions to that.

Yes, I had the same finding. I do not know the exact limit, but if you shorten the name, it will appear.

I believe it is 50 characters.

Really?
28 Brotherhood of man - Save Your Kisses For Me.mid - fails
28 Brotherhood of man - Save Your Kisses For.mid - works
52 Frans Bauer - Als sterren aan de hemel staan.mid fails
52 Frans Bauer - Als sterren aan de hemel.mid works
65 Kenny Rogers Dolly Parton - Islands In The Stream.mid fails
65 K Rogers D Parton - Islands In The Stream.mid works
almost seems it's only 43-45 ? without the extention

Hi pka4916,
with most Yamaha keyboards (so also with the S975) you have the following limitations:
For File names you can use up to 41 characters,
plus (optionally) 5 characters for the "Icon ID", like ".S809",
plus 4 characters for the file extension like ".mid"
(in summary up to 50 characters)
For Folder names you can also use up to 50 characters.
If NO ICON ID is used (only one point and the file extension), in some cases up to 46 characters could be accepted by the keyboard. But if such a file would be SAVED newly with the keyboard, you will have a problem, because an ICON ID will be added automatically then. For this reason, I strongly recommend to use a maximum of 41 characters.
Examples for two working file names:
This is the maximal length of a file name.mid
This is the maximal length of a file name.T806.mid
Please refer also to PSR-S975 Owner's Manual, page 31.
Edit: It's page 32 ;)
Best regards,
Chris

Thank you.
That is good to know.
I did look through the manual and I am looking on page 31, but that only has info about copying and deleting folders.
I didn't find anything about that limitation. but now I now :)
Thank you

Thank you for feedback!
P.S.
I made a mistake before: This information (about 41 characters) is on page 32 in the manual (on the right side of the page, titled "NOTE"). ;)
