Good find Enildo
I like what I see and hear.

Hope to play one soon.

Couldn't be less.
If the specs are real, then the prize of genos could be hardly justify now.
PSR SX has features that miss on Genos too. Sliders and Pot for 2000 USD ?

and here is the official... official announcement from Yamaha Europe. :)
https://europe.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/psr-sx900/index.html (https://europe.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/psr-sx900/index.html).
Have fun everyone!

I just had a look at the official announcement on the yamaha europe website and they only seem to mention the PSR SX900.
This is what they say ...
quote
Take your performance to a whole new dimension with the PSR-SX. Replacing the hugely successful PSR-S series, the PSR-SX900 is the new generation in Digital Workstation sound, design and user experience
unquote
Taking their words literaly it would seem the PSR SX900 is ment to be replacing the entire PSR-S series line (9xx, 7xx and 6xx)?
Maybe a software license key will unlock features, based on the amount paid or maybe just inaccurate phrasing on the website ....
Rudy
-
A new YEM seems to be out and the change list (below) mentions the PSR-SX700.
[V2.5.2 to V2.5.3]
Now supports the PSR-SX900 and PSR-SX700.
Solved some other minor problems.
So the PSR SX900 is not ment to replace the entire PSR-S line afterall.

No, they do list SX900 and SX700 on the Yamaha pages.

I find that there were some errors in the rumors. So we have:
* SX900 has 1337 voices, SX700 has 986 voices, not 1337.
* Both SX900 and SX700 have parts R1, R2, R3, not only SX900.
* Both SX900 and SX700 have mp3 recording, not only SX900
* NO revo drums on SX900 and SX700.
-
I'm waiting for everyone to start griping about the lack of USB audio-- "Even the entry-level PSR-E models have it!" :)

Wow, your are right. In this context:
* The entry level digital piano P-125 has usb audio (and it's cool with iPad connected)
* The top of the line Genos does not have usb audio
So this is kind of controversial. But if even the Genos does not have it, why should PSR series.
Uli
-
Vinciane, ***gripping*** :
Yes indeed... why no USB audio ?? >:(
-
I hope that the hard bass and clicked keys now are history on the PSR models. And of course, scat voice in multipads. If that's the case, then I'll buy myself a PSR SX 900.

There are 30 SX video's in Yamaha's Youtube channel:

No need to post URL's to all individual vids ;)

It this true ? Because in data manuel there are 8 Drumkits that are revo drums on Genos. I mean the Rockkit, Popkit, Jazzkit, R&B, EDM, Trap, and so on. It is true in Data List there are not name "Revo Drums" but they sound the same as Genos Revo drums.
On the demo Style you can hear clearly the Rock and Popkits. So how can you explain this ?

You are right. They use drum kits having the same name. But the data list of the SX900 does not contain the word "revo" at all. So I doubt, it is available.

It seems that it s just the kit without Wave Cycling. There are 3 kits missing from the Genos. VintageOpen, Vintagemuted and Jazzkit.

It is not clear to me how the "chord looper" is used during live play from just watching the demo that was provided. I would like to hear someone explain and show how it would be used live.
I didn't even know Yamaha could provide a "style section reset", they should have given us that gem ... a long time ago.
The Third Voice (R3) is a really great upgrade for the way I use the Keyboard, it would save me having to flip to an OTS while playing live. I set up my custom styles with a specific MAIN to be used for the Instrumental section of each song. A lot of times I would like to do my leads with one instrument and then hand off the lead to a second instrument but in order to do that I have to hide that second voice in one of the other OTS positions. This new upgrade fixes that problem. ;)

Hi Drake,
I think that it works exactly like the chord sequencer on Korg. There is a Record start/stop button, start records during live play, starting at next beat 1. And there is a play button. So I expect it to be identical to chord sequencer.

I was hoping, that the chord looper was memorised with the registration. That is really cool.
From the documentation, it does not get clear, if a single chord sequence is save to registry, or the complete chord looper bank. I think that the reference to the bank is stored in registry. So we have up to 8 chord sequences saved with any registration.
Uli

What I really like about it is the Live Control values are displayed on screen and I hope those values are saved in the registrations.

Looks like the SX-900 has the scat voices, but not the SX-700. I'm happy with the Genos, but if I hadn't bought it, I would be very tempted by the XS-900!

Hello Guys, in addition to the functions mentioned above, Yamaha fulfilled one of my wishes and is the Mp3 Audio recorder, no longer need to go to the PC, to make the conversion, the other wish is not yet there and is: Tools Advanced Edition in "Song Creator" for example: piano roll, magnifying glass (to expand the scrolling of events) scroll key, Track View function to delete, move or copy, or correct data in the form of tracks or
whole bars. but I am very happy with the new flagship, I think it's a breakthrough since the S975. Greetings. Hans

Really happy to have 3 right hand voices. 😊
-
Was just checking out the Data List. Lots of choir voices. 😊😊

On the specs page, the SX900 and 700 both have the Style Recommender. Could that be coming back to the Genos in an update?
Also noticed that they both have S.Art sounds, but not S.Art 2. Interesting... And no dedicated Super Articulation buttons. Apparently they can be assigned to a foot pedal or to the assignable buttons.

Well .. I for one am quite impressed at what is on offer here in the SX900.
Plus one, when I look at the new user interface and playlist feature, just to name 2 things its a winner for sure. I have an s970 that I may have to replace. If you didnt buy a Genos for one reason or another, this may be the board for you.

I think yamaha listened to our requests this time. I am very pleased with everything I have seen so far.
Joystick, Playlist, Assignable Buttons, Chord Looper, Voices R1+R2+R3, Half Bar Fill, Touch Screen Display, Subwofer Outputs, Two USB Inputs ... And More!

That's true??? kkkkkk

If Enildo, but according to the information on the Yamaha site, the availability of the Bluethoot function varies depending on the Country, we will have to wait to see if Latin America is in the list of countries with this restriction. Greetings. Hans

In terms of voices and DSP, SX900 is basically a Tyros5.
It has:

They are starting to pop up on the websites of the larger stores now. Prices in Holland vary from 2.199,- to 2.356,-. That is about 225 to 400 more than the S975, am I right? If it goes anything like the pricing of the Genos at it's introduction, it pays off to wait a couple of months for the initial prices to go down about 10%. A "cooling-off period" of a few months also helps to be able to make a more rational decision about the purchase, instead of going along with the hype of a new product ;). Meanwhile S975 is now priced at 1.625,-
I wonder if a PSR SX900 will be an upgrade to my Tyros 4. It would give me some of the newer voices and DSP's, new styles and drumkits. But I would definitly have to try one first to see if the keybed is any good if you are used to the Tyros FSX keybed, which I like a lot.
Is anyone else also considering the PSR SX900 as a replacement for their Tyros 4 or 5?
-
I think prices will drop even more than 10%. The Genos started off at 4500 at introduction, but half a year later shops like Bax and Thomann listed it for less than 3700. An S975 can already be purchased for less than 1700. Bax puts the SX900 at 2356, whic is almost 40% more expansive than it's predecessor. That's a price not many people will be willing to pay.
Regarding the T4 versus ths SX900. The SX900 has some great new features, some of which also can be found on the Genos. But as you already stated yourself, it lacks the FSX keybed. It also has just 61 keys. And it can only connect two foot pedals (1 switch, 1 expression) whereas the T4/5 can connect three pedals (2 switch, 1 expression). Also: no SA2, no ensemble voices, no angle-adjustable display. So it depends on what features you would need the most. For me, 76 keys are a must, so the SX700/900 are not an option. Likewise with the three foot pedals.
I'm holding on to the T5 untill Yamaha launches the Genos 2 :)

Where has the Ballad Style disappeared to?
The Ballad styles have mainly been split into the Pop&Rock or Dance categories. They are all there. You can view the data list online that tells you what's in the categories here:

There's also nearly £1000 difference between the two models as well !!! :o

You are right, corrected ;)

This keyboard carry all TYROS5 new voice including all Choir voices. A great disappointment SuperArticulation2 voices still not included in PSR models. But some new GENOS voices and Drumkits are included.
YAMAHA should include S.Art2 voices in next PSR midrange mode.
Joy Stick and Touch Screen and many new features in this new model is much appreciated. H

Can anyone explain what these "+ 10W" are in amplifiers?
Enildo
-
Hi Onacimus,
Are you saying the Strings are more akin to on the Tyro5 than those on the PSR S975?
Richard.
-
Hello Danster72 and Robert,
Thank you for pointing out where the Ballad Styles are on the SX900.
Best wishes,
Richard.
-
@ Enildo,
I believe it means that the speakers are bi-amped, in other words, having separate amplifiers for each speaker driver or component. In this case, the 10W would be for Mid and High Frequency and the 15W or watts for the 5" or Lower Frequencies.

Great news from Yamaha! SX-700 and SX-S900 have BIG improvements in comparison with their predecesors.
The internal memory is not in MB anymore (and it shouldn't have been for a few years), we have a touch screen now, asignable buttons, different keyboard bed and build materials, wireless (BT) and so much more. Almost there (meaning that we will have to get additional firmware updates with even more features and another BIG update for the Yamaha Expansion Manager software that needs to come until the keyboards will be in stores; not the last YEM update, but another with all the requested features).
Now, probably the competition will just release a software update to beat the Expansion memory levels.
But, for now, what we see on the demos on YouTube, we like! GREAT! Great sound indeed and great keyboards will be! Good job Yamaha (but we wait for YEM support also)!
-
Hi there,
Don't know anything about technical stuff and how all those different kind of voices with the exclamation mark "!" are created and why they sound as they do,
just wondering if a s.Art2! voice needs aftertouch and a better keybed in order to sound good or a keyboard needs a better... "engine" to produce such a sound or something.
-
Hi Tom,
for me it's a small but good upgrade from Tyros4 (sacrificing SA2 voices), but not for Tyros5, with which it's very similar overall, lacking SA2 and Ensemble voices.
Francesco
Thank you Francesco and Robert van Weersch for sharing your thoughts. I think the days when very big steps were made in sound quality and technology are over. There has been more evolution than revolution for almost 10 years. However, the expectations for a new model are sometimes still very high. I think that also explains the sometimes lukewarm reception of new keyboards.
I also wonder if this new keyboard offers better sounds than my Tyros 4 from 6 years ago. If I am honest to myself I actually don't think so!
-

Hello Tom!
Genos will surely deliver better sound and features than your Tyros 4 from 6 years ago as it is your replacement. The sx900 is a replacement for the PSR line, so it is replacing the s970 / 975. Of course because it's more modern, some features like Chord Looper, Playlist, Assignable Buttons, go ahead, but comparisons have to be within each category. Of course, there will come a time when the lower lines will be higher than the highest, by the natural evolution of things. I know that Tyros' sound engine is much better than PSRs, but due to other items, there are a lot of people trading their Tyros for PSRs and seeing advantages in this exchange.
My sincere greetings,
Enildo

The SX900 Data List does NOT show Kino Strings I'm afraid.

The SX900 and SX700 may have not the FSX keybed of Genos and Tyros, but it seems they will have something similar in action, that they call it FSB.
It seems to me that this will be a version of the same keybed as FSX, but with lack of aftertouch.
