Recently I bought a condenser mic (Rode NT1A) in addition to my dynamic microphones.
I hope to get clearer and more natural sounding vocal and acoustic guitar recordings on Genos.
These condenser mics need 48V power supply and on Genos there is a little switch on the back next to the mic input to turn it on or off.
The strange thing is that no matter it's turned on or off the mic is working. I would have expected that when the switch is turned off the mic would not work.
Anybody else who has observed this?

I also use a 48V condenser mic
( Tyros5/76 ).
Between the mic and the T5 mic input I installed a converter.
Price for the converter : approx. US$30,-- .
A great sound and all works very well.🎤

Just to sure, you condensor mic is plugged into Genos using XLR connector?

The NT1a should not work without phantom power. Try turning it off and leave it off for a while or have the 48v turned off when turning the Genos on. It may be that the circuitry in the NT1a is retaining/storing some of the power that allows it to work for a short while after you turn off the switch

Babette, Genos already has 48V Phantom Power near the Mic jack... No need extra converters or other external power.
He said that even that switch near the Mic jack is set to on or off, his mic working. Having power set to OFF, it has to not work... I don't have anymore condenser mic till I owned T5, so I cannot test... I tried to measure with my voltmeter but nothing shows me up, neither on On or Off switch...
Cheers

Hi Vali :
Is the Genos not the first Yamaha arranger with a direct 48V condenser mic input ? I think it is, right ?
The Genos is the first Yamaha arranger with a touch screen.
New for Yamaha but absolutely not new for the competition.
IMHO Yamaha MUST come with a Genos2 tiltable touch screen.

Yes, but this is another opened discussion. ;D
For now, let's see what is wrong and how can be solved, if it is a user mistake, if it is a wrong approach, if it is a defective electronic device!

Thanks everybody for your remarks and suggestions.
MarKF is right. Apparently the power is not immediately gone.
In addition forum member JLoendersloot suggested me to try switching Genos on with the 48V phantom power switch off and in this case the mic is indeed not working.
Anyway I'm glad nothing seems to be wrong with the mic or Genos.

Interesting! Glad all is OK.
