Title: Moving up
Post by: Bud2 on January 06, 2019, 06:53:18 PM
A friend is thinking of getting the latest PSR975 but is wondering if his registrations from his PSR3000 would work on the new one. I know, and have done for a couple of friends, made their Tyros 1 Registrations work on a Tyros 5 using the software which is available on the Yamaha site but I have not had anything to do with the PSR range apart from having a PSR3000 many years ago but at that time when I moved up to a Tyros 2 I wasn't bothered about keeping my registrations from my PSR3000.
Many thanks in advance. Bill

Hi Bill,
You can use the Murray Best's Registration Manager v 5.11 (newest) to update or convert Regs from one keyboard to another up to s970 and genos. However, it appears that s975 and s775 are not in the list, yet.

Hi Ted, many thanks for your quick reply, I can at least tell my friend this information.  ;)
Cheers, Bill

This is good news for when and if I move up from my 3000.

If these old registrations are in REG (not RGT) form I doubt it will work. I have still an old PSR 2000 and couldn't transform them. Murray's fantastic program does not support REG. If I'm wrong I would like to know.

Dick

The current version V5.11 of Murray's program lists the following compatible models:

Genos, Tyros 5, Tyros 4, Tyros 3, Tyros 2, and Tyros
    PSR S970, S950, S910, S900, S770, S750, S710, S700 and S670
    PSR 3000
    Clavinova CVP309, CVP609, CVP605, CVP701, CVP705, CVP709

So, you are correct, compatibly starts with the PSR-3000 onward.  The PSR-2000/2100, with their REG files are not compatible, but in Bill's case with trying to help his friend, there is no problem, as they are talking about converting from the PSR-3000 to a newer board.  Even so, I have my doubts about how successful the conversion will work, as we are talking about converting from the oldest compatible PSR to the newest.  That's a difference of 14 years, but at least they are going from an older board with lesser capabilities to a newer board with greater capabilities.  Most of what works on the PSR-3000 should also work on the 975, while there are a lot of things on the 975 that would not even be recognized on the 3000.  Still, I wish them all the best.

My friend will be keeping his PSR3000 so if it doesn't work properly he can still use his old keyboard until he is happy with his new one but I will let you all know how we go on if he does make his mind up soon, all his family are pushing him to get the new keyboard.

I still have my 2100. And have now learned that its registrations are made in an old format!
