Title: midi files
Post by: alecras234 on April 29, 2018, 06:31:20 PM
Hi my name is Ash, im disabled and use a wheelchair. I play a Yamaha E453 keyboard using my left arm as I can't use both arms because of my disability. I download midi files onto a usb pen and I play the melodies. I'm a big fan of Queen so im trying to create a repertoire of Queen songs to play as i have a Queen gig in November. Here is my problem, I'm ok with learning melody lines but when the midi file plays a solo i get stuck on what to play. For instance, the guitar solo of one of the songs, "Bohemian Rhapsody" goes a little too fast in parts and is a chromatic run down, what do i play? i'm unable to play fast and can only use three fingers of my left hand. It's the same for every solo/lead part, it's either too fast or the interval is to wide.   What do i play once the melody stops and a guitar riff or solo plays?  I don't want to sit back and listen to the midi file play and me not play anything.

Hi Ash,
you can try to play some additional chords or just notes according to the solo's melody.
Or maybe if you could use a drumkit and play some additional drums it would be nice in that specific part of Bohemian Rhapsody, but you have to improvise and its kind of difficult.

Not an easy song at all in anycase...
At minute 2:40 is the solo quitar riff,if anyone has some ideas.

So Ash, you can play melodies with just 3 fingers of the left hand?
That's a talent!  :)
My left hand sometimes hits the keys so hard like it's playing the drums ;D

I have downloaded 10 midi files and saved them on my usb pen.   One of the midi files has a strange off key synth sound near to where the solo begins.   How do i get rid of the noise please?  Also for the guitar riffs shall i use a guitar sound to play chords to accompany it?

You can use this program to delete the channel you don't like.
http://psrtutorial.com/MB/mixMaster.html (http://psrtutorial.com/MB/mixMaster.html)

A midi file can have up to 16 channels .
Every voice you hear in the midi is in a different channel.
(drums,bass,guitar,piano etc)

Here you can find some programs to manage the midi files on your pc

To accompany the solo electric guitar use a voice that sounds good to you.
Could be a guitar or a piano or even a synth brass sound.
In the song the chords are been played from all organs at that time and they follow the beat of the drums.
