Title: Slimmed Down Forum
Post by: Joe W on April 11, 2018, 08:08:17 AM
A couple of weeks ago, topics in the forum were inadvertently trimmed to those with responses in the last 120 days.  This resulted in a lot of older material disappearing.  There was a slight home that we would be able to recapture this from the hard drives on our old server.  As it turns out, this will not be possible.  So, those old topics are gone.  I am sorry to report that, but new content continues to flow in and we will continue to grow into the future.  As a matter of fact, the average number of new registrations each day has jumped from 9 in February and March to 40 in April.

Fortunately, the web site is still intact and it has material that covers the operation of the Yamaha arranger keyboards going all the way back to the PSR-2000/1000.  I have just added a new styles page for the new PSR-S975, which is just now beginning to appear in the U.S.  Perhaps the new S975/S775 is why we are getting so many new members.

Hi Joe,

I am so sorry that all old topics are gone. There was a whole database of information there and quite regularly I used to turn back to old topics for reference.

Maybe we should do some kind of backup if the site, let's say on a monthly basis, in case this should happen again?

Thank you once more for all the hard work you have been putting into this great website and also the forum.

Best Regards,

Vinciane.

You can still see the posts from before October 8, 2017 using the Internet Archive Wayback Machine:

https://web.archive.org/web/20171008055236/https://www.psrtutorial.com/forum

That was the date of the most recent capture that they did. I have no idea if it's possible to recapture any of the old posts from that site, but at least they can still be accessed.

Several topics are still within the forum, which date back a few years, due to the fact that someone posted in those topics within the last few months.

I just spent a few minutes looking at the Internet Archive Wayback Machine website, Michael, which I've used before but had forgotten about it.  I saw posts there dating back over 10 years in the forum.  When clicking on the additional pages, other than page 1, the links couldn't be found.

It's late now, but I'll take another look at this tomorrow.  Thank you for pointing it out, Michael.  :)

Hello Michael and thanks for pointing this out.

Roger, I tried the same thing that you did and apparently it is impossible to use the links. So all we have is a list of old topics I guess  :(

I am so disappointed that all our old data seem to be lost forever because some of these posts really hosted a database of knowledge on recent and older Yamaha keyboards, plus other stuff like help about various hardware and software pertaining to music and audio, sheet music etc.

A nice day to you all (on top of all that here it is heavily raining - do not believe everything you are being told about the South of France and its supposedly sunny climate  8) )

Regards,

Vinciane

Hi,
Was this due to that "something went wrong" or is this how the forum will work from now on (that older post will be removed)?
Kind regards Marcus

FYI:

Some of the older topics have been used in the 550 FAQ entries available here: http://psrtutorial.com/lessons/faq/PSRFAQ.htm (http://psrtutorial.com/lessons/faq/PSRFAQ.htm)

This is devastating news. All the past knowledge and advice given in "Essential Extras" was priceless. I often used the past postings in "Essential Extras" as a valuable reference.

I was not aware of the Web archive site.  It has been capturing "snapshots" of PSR Tutorial related pages for a very long time.  It does not appear to be that easy to navigate.  On some forum pages, the topic links to open up other pages, but not always.  I was very surprised to find the very first capture which showed the original home page of the PSR Tutorial back in December of 2002.  For those interested, here's the link:

Joe W

Thanks so much to you and the Forum Team for the hard work that you guys do every day to keep this forum alive and running.

Well, it is unfortunate but this things happen even in the largest Fortune-500 Corporations.

Nothing to be done, so no need to dwell in the past. Let's look forward.  !!!

The good news is that the Forum still works great.  Although some past topics are gone, the LIVE advise provided by all the forum members is invaluable.

Thanks again.

No, older posts will not be removed.  The trimming normally applies only to classified ads and to songs played by forum members (since members are not expected to keep their posted songs online forever).

I had an opportunity to take another look at the Internet Archive Wayback Machine website today.  I didn't investigate each and every topics multiple pages; however, I did find a few that I was able to open beyond the first page.

Here's a link that has 2 pages, which are accessible.  I also found some that had a few more pages accessible also.

This is not good news, but it is as it is, and we must look ahead and not back to the past. A big hug goes out from me to Joe and the team of moderators for all you do for us!!!

   Hi
I am finding that the PSR S900/700 site was hit VERY hard, just when I was looking for some more info.

     Hi Roger,
Just had a quick glance at the material you found. Just what I was talking about,   "Ripper Rita"  ; 8) 8)

ps That's a happy little saying over here among people of a certain era ;) thanks to a TV show. I think.

                           Thanks Roger,
                                                          Alan

UPDATE 28-4-18
Went a bit further with the link, 2 pages was all I could find or get into, dated back in 2007,  not much good so far I'm afraid.

Mine are all gone! Even can't find a single one. I wish I had save my discussions.

Joe & Roger. Fully understand as things require to be tightening up from time to time.

Your work is appreciated...Well done.

Hi folks,

here is another link to the captured content of Psrtutorial Forum on "archive.org" (from April 2018):

https://web.archive.org/web/20180402023732/www.psrtutorial.com/forum

Many previous threads can be accessed there, but you can not log in there and the Search function does not work on these pages.

If a particular thread does NOT appear, you can try to change the date of capturing (by clicking at the top of the page).

Best regards,
Chris
