Do you already know how to connect your PSR-S970 to your iPhone? Yamaha has a document about how to do that:

Do you know how to change the PSR-S970's MIDI settings? This is described in the PSR-S970 Reference Manual:

Were you able to connect the keyboard to the phone? If not, are you planning to use the Camera Connection Kit or Bluetooth?

You can use Apple's camera connection kit, which is just a fancy name to sell a simple Lightning-to-USB adapter. And then hook that cable up to a USB-A to-USB-B cable, sometimes incorrectly called a "printer cable". I have used this to connect an iPad and also a friend's iPhone to my Tyros.
