Title: A swingin' Genos
Post by: Dromeus on January 07, 2018, 11:33:21 AM
Hi folks

In an attempt to fulfill the "desperate" requests  ;D for Genos playing, I prepared this little recording. But first, we have to TALK (sorry, Pianoman, just joking...).

I'm not an afficionado of Easy Listening, but the well known Bert Kaempfert tune "A Swingin' Safari" has a very special meaning for me. My father was a big fan of Kaempfert's music, so I'm familiar with it since a long, long time. More important though was a workshop given by Reinhold Poehnl, which happens to be the developer of AI Fingered. This workshop was posted as an mp3 file in the German Yamaha forum (must have been around 2002), and Reinhold demonstrated, how to control the bass line using AI Fingered technique. That really started me going to learn how to play with styles.

So this will be my first Genos tune. The preset style used is (not surprising) OrchestralSwing2, but I tweaked it a bit. I love the RevoDrums here (JazzBrushKitComp), but found the bass drum inappropriate, so changed that to the kick drum of the AcousticKit. To get near the famous bass sound of Kaempfert's bassist Ladi Geisler, I doubled the style's base line to PHR2 using a legacy Electric Guitar, to get the attack. Although the bass uses a MegaVoice (ActiveBassPick), it does work too with the ElectricGuitar, seems that the base line in OrchestralSwing2 does not use any fancy articulations of this MegaVoice. The performance has been recorded as an audio quick recording with no further editing, so it's 100% Genos style playing.

Enough talking, let's hear it for Bert Kaempfert :). Pardon me for some timing issues, folks, hope you enjoy it.

Very nice.  Great sounds on the Genos too.
Drums seem to be the biggest difference from previous models.

Thank you very much, Dromeus, for a great workmanship. ;D
Add nothing to put it in the picture - everything is there.
Genos is in good hands.

The brass and string sections three quarters though in the song are my favorite parts and superbly done and very authentic sounding.

Exemplifies the true purpose of those wonderful arranger keyboards with the results and enjoyment one can get from your creativity. It helps To have such a powerful high quality arranger like the Genos for inspiration and easy of workflow. Best part is, music can be shared.

All the best n the New Year
