Title: Looking for Solina string machine sound / voice
Post by: technobob on October 11, 2022, 12:15:02 AM
Hi everybody
I've recently treated myself to an immaculate "nearly new" Yamaha Genos - all I can say is "WOW"!
However, now that the "honemoon period" is over (or is it?) I'm looking for sounds / voices that I've enjoyed using over the years; mainly vintage or "old school" synthesiser sounds. Things like Mellotrons, Yamaha CS-80 and DX-7 type sounds, but in particular Solina string machine sounds.
Can anyone help and point me in the right direction in my search?
Thank you in advance
Bob

Hi --

Welcome!

Don't know about the Solina specifically, but Yamaha Musicsoft has vintage keyboard expansion packs:

Free.

I saw your post about the Rhodes. There is a pack with alternative EP voices, too. Free.

Hope this helps -- pj

I have a Waldorf Streichfett string sythesizer,it has some amazing sounds from those type of instruments ,and is very adjustable to give a wide variety of string synth type sounds

Solina = Arp String Ensamble.

Solina = Arp String Ensamble.

For our American friends, yes. But it was Solina before it was rebadged as ARP. And it was 'Eminent 310u' that started it a year or two before that!

I think you have to look around in the Synth Strings patches. I'm lucky, my Roland has a Solina sound. Another alternative is to look for a solo string sound in the GM section (assuming you've loaded in those voices to User) and applying a Symphonic DSP effect. Save the results as a User Voice. Yamaha's ensemble DSP probably isn't as smooth as the Solina but it will be near-ish!
