Hm I might give a note of caution here - you must not remove it while the system is actually using it. So if you've just saved something to USB, or are currently loading something from USB, don't remove it.

Hi.

Quote from the Genos manual, probably similiar written in SX manuals:

Connecting a USB device
When connecting a USB device to the [USB TO
DEVICE] terminal, make sure that the connector on the
device is appropriate and that it is connected in the proper
direction.

Notice
• Avoid connecting or disconnecting the USB device during playback/
recording and file management operations (such as Save,
Copy, Delete and Format), or when accessing the USB device.
Failure to observe this may result in “freezing” of the operation
of the instrument or corruption of the USB device and the data.
• When connecting then disconnecting the USB device (and vice
versa), make sure to wait a few seconds between the two operations.

I don't know if this is the right thread for this question. I am using a 32 GB USB memory stick to store midi and MP3 files for use in my PSR SX900. I have them in nested folders organized by the artist name. it looks like this on pc: USB>Midi>artist name>music files.mid. The keyboard seems to have issues sorting out the many files i have stored on the USB. Can someone clarify the correct format I need to use to get these to function correctly? The PSR just stays in a searching mode for very long times when i try to load one of the files. The few times it did function correctly, they played flawlessly. Thanks in advance.

Hi jimh54,

You write about a lot of files and I would imagine that this is where the problem lies: The limited amount of files in a folder. With my T5, I've gotten into the habit of not storing more than 400 files in one folder. The limit may be higher on the PSR SX900, but it definitely exists.

Your folder setup is fine. When searches take a long time, it’s because you have too many files in one or more folders. It doesn’t matter what type they are — it’s the number.

Take your USB to a computer and check it there. I agree with @wersianer on a limit of 400.

And, when using the USB in your keyboard, keep it inserted as much as possible (ie, through power on/off cycles) so the keyboard doesn’t re-index it.

Cheers,
Fred
