Genos2 / Re: New firmware 1.04 Genos2
« Last post by a048352 on Today at 08:24:53 PM »
Sorry but Genos2 doesn’t work as it should. On many styles if sou send the kick to aux1-2, it still plays through main L/R. And when you play an audio file, it still stutters when you open menus/other screen. Looks like they gotn’t their threads right. Or the processor isn’t fast enough to process everything. I reported the bug in november 2023 to yamaha who confirmed it, but now after 7 months it still isn’t fixed… :(
And where is the new organ vcm simulator? It is implemented in all the other (and cheaper) stagepiano’s from Yamaha, but unfortunately not in Genos2.
And why are all the extra instruments from the last 5 years not added in Genos2? But still have to be installed by the user and thus losing already >1.5Gb of user sample memory?
It is a great keyboard, but it could’ve been so much better…

I have my keyboard Split at Style B0 & Left B2  and the Chord Detection Area set to Lower playing ClassicPianoBallad Style using Multi Finger Chord Mode. Midi Setting is KBD & STYLE AÇMP & SYNC START are turned ON and Parts Left, Main and Layer are Off.

I get my Soundpaint 1928 Steinway Piano Voicing playing through the keyboard which is great but when I start playing the Style and doing chord changes their is a droning sound which I think might be caused by incorrect MIDI Settings or something to do with ACMP Settings so I am at a loss as to how to correct this and any help from the community would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. This is my first post, so I hope I don't breach any protocols.

I have a Tyros 5. I use styles with harmonies driven by the left hand, and melodies in the right hand. Straightforward enough. But I find editing notes etc in the Tyros to be a bit of a pain. I like to use Musescore version 3 to create and edit pieces. Easy, notes can be added and edited and so on with ease and accuracy; fine.

What I'd like to do is:
1.   Create an approximation of what I'm trying to create, within the Tyros with an appropriate style and right hand and sounds;
2.   Export this as a MID file on a memory stick;
3.   Import it into Musescore 3 on my laptop;
4.   Edit it to my heart's content in Musescore, add repeats, slight variations, dynamics etc etc;
5.   Export this to a MID file on a memory stick;
6.   Import this edited/extended version back into the Tyros as a "song";
7.   Play the edited version back using the sounds generated by the Tyros. Record as an audio file.

In my experiments to try to do this, I am able to export a song as a MID file from the Tyros, switch it off and on again to reset it, and then re-import the MID file into the Tyros. When I do that all the sounds and instruments, melodies, styles etc are perfectly preserved and re-instated. So all relevant Midi data is stored in the MID file.
Okay, so far so good. BUT if I import the MID file into Musescore, and immediately export it to a MID file, without editing or modifying it at all, and then import this file back into the Tyros, then when this song is played in the Tyros the sounds are scrambled and play on different instruments. So there's something about the process of importing the song into Musescore and then exporting it again, which, in itself, scrambles the sounds a bit. I'm guessing it might be something to do with data for "Megavoices" not being preserved completely when the MID file is imported into Musescore and then exported from it. Or some kind of Midi mapping issue?

So, can anyone suggest how I can do what I'm trying to do and preserve sounds etc after I have edited a piece within Musescore? Or achieve my aim via some other route?

I'm not particularly fluent in electronics or things Midi, so I'm hoping for a not-too-complex solution.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Eileen
OTS is great to see where a sound is for the that Quality Genos can achieve :) A good guide line to make you adjust things on a sound that you want to make or a comparison for the best that is possible.

I have also noticed that the sliders are not totally responsive as you have to go up and down quite a lot sometimes to get the sliders to work. I agree with Andy B on the slider thing. ::) As soon as you touch a slider it should respond. Hope it is not a pentium 4 thing!! ;D

All the Best

So... In YOUR view... What makes the perfect arranger?

Got it already -- Genos 1. It suits my needs.

Quote
1) Do I really need this?
2) And if so, do I really need this right now?

I'd add "3) Can I afford it?", "4) Where am I going to put it?" and "5) What else has to go out the door first?" :)

It does spoil the fun of coming onto this forum when all you get are people blinding you with all these requests.

People can expect all they want. Please ignore them for your own sake.  ;)

Yep, there ain’t been anything worth opening up my wallet for yet.

The development of these instruments is definitely at the plateau phase.

Had an S950 like Drake. Good arranger. Mike is right. The mid- and upper-end arrangers are fine instruments. I would have given anything to have a Genos 1 in 1980...

Remember that as we get older it is important to keep our brains active, new products do this by giving us a challenge.

That's why I get into different aspects of music and music technology. Learning new software, making new styles, etc. are other ways to keep the mind active.

Peace to everyone -- pj

Remember that as we get older it is important to keep our brains active, new products do this by giving us a challenge.

The most precious thing we all have is our brain, which controls everything we do.
I now suffer from Cerebellum  Ataxia. Cerebellum is at the back lower part of your brain and is responsible for you communicating with your limbs movement.

At 87 I'm not complaining and hopefully Peter Baartmans will have set up a music room by the time I get there.

I don't see OTS settings as a fault. That is a matter of personal choice. I very rarely use them preferring to set my own voices and volumes into registration banks.

No real faults, then what do you call the joke of catch function on the sliders? It is a nightmare, you can't do a simple quick volume change on the fly like you could on the older keyboards. If Yamaha don't fix this abomination, then the Genos 2 is going back to the dealer, if they would take it back. Then there are the most stupid choices Yamaha have put in the OTS, for some of the styles no idea what idiot they had choosing them, some of the choices of instrument don't match the style used.
