Wow, spoke to Rimmers Music yesterday to discuss trade in of Genos 1 against Genos 2 which was priced at £3599 on website night before.
Quoted £2700 to swap, valuing my genos at £899!
Told prices due to increase shortly as existing stock to be renewed and Yamaha UK prices were increased.
Decided to think about a cash purchase as I’m sure can sell my G1 for much more.
Then looked at Rimmers web site and discovered price had already increased by £400 to £3999.
Not looking like I’ll be changing any time soon.
Might wait to upgrade my Montage 6 to a Montage M8x if they ever become available!
Good job I’m still in awe of the two
keyboards I have.

Are you sure?
I see a price drop has happened as in November 2023 the price was $5699.
It is now only $4950

Same here in Germany at thomann.de:
Genos 2 = 4175 EUR (all taxes included) = 4455 USD = 3600 GBP

No price drops here in the U.S. It’s reduced $750 in Europe? That’s a lot.

$5699? That doesn't sound right... It's been about $5k USD since launch in Canada, hasn't changed yet in either direction.

In the USA, the price for Genos2 was originally $6599 on the Yamaha USA website, but that quickly dropped to a street price shown of $5699.99 as shown on Yamaha USA, Amazon, Sweetwater, Guitar Center, Woodwind Brasswind, Kraft Music, etc. That is the price I paid for mine a few weeks ago. I have not seen any changes in street prices on any web sites.
Pricing is generally a function of supply and demand. In this case, it could also be a function of currency fluctuations between JPYen, Euro, GPB, USD, etc.

Fair enough; but that's a pretty big price difference from our neighbors... usually Canada and USA have more or less the same price, and indeed, I assumed it was $5k USD the entire time. When I looked in January it was about that (musicians friend or sweetwater, can't remember which I checked, but when I looked USA and CAD price was about the same; I'm shocked that it was 30% more in the USA initially!

I spoke to a Yamaha dealer here in the UK two weeks ago, and he told me that Yamaha would be increasing the price of Genos 2 by a considerable margin in the next couple of months.

On german Yamaha (https://de.yamaha.com/de/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/index.html) website launch prices are shown:
Genos2: 5549€
SX900: 2853€
SX700: 1644€
Current street prices (at Thomann (https://www.thomann.de/intl/entertainer_keyboards.html) germany):
Genos2: 4290€ -since about mid February
SX900: 1999€
SX700: 1199€
If you visit those websites you might see slightly different prices because it depends on tax where you live.

I have to say that in light of the current economic situation affecting pretty well everybody in the UK at the moment, that would be a decision that they will look back on with regret.
It will become uncompetitive, and Korg will cream off their trade.
Sorry, but asking even more money for what's essentially a good but very pricey plastic keyboard.... Not a chance. Plenty of G1's around, and few people will consider it's worth the extra cost, now that the initial hype has died down.
Don't know why these companies have this weird obsession of pricing themselves out of the market in the UK. It's nothing but greed.
Cheaper to to take the ferry to France and bring one back in the car. 😂😂

I don't think I have ever heard of the Manufacture raising their advertised MSRP.
You never pay that price to being with anyway. Yamaha might raise the price to the distributor and then the Music store will not cut their price to the customers as much.
Inflation is a bit higher than usual but it is not more than 30 Percent higher.
-
This is nothing new and happens most times but you can still shop around and get a good price. I don't think Korg will ever cream of Yamaha customers. The keyboards are two different animals.
-
I simply do not understand - everyone is talking about the price has risen!!
As far as I can see in the UK the price is way down compared to what it was when I bought mine in Dec 23. Most are quoting £3999 now when I paid £4300.
The selling price for a used Genos 1 is only £700 cheaper than the new G2, so why complain. You must remember that PX for old G1’s has dropped due to them flooding the market.
Just my opinion, for what it’s worth.

I think it is a case of some people love knocking Yamaha. I will never understand why.

I have just received my new Genos 2 from Bonners music UK. They were advertised at £3999.00 . So they part ex’d my 3 year old psrsx900 for £1000 and I paid £1000 cash, so will pay the rest by interest free credit for 12 months. That included delivery and pick up. I decided to bite the bullet and get one for my retirement before any more price increases here

Congratulations! I play mine every day and I love it to bits.
