The new model has "Auto-chord play" -- basically built-in chord progressions that play for you ("leaving the left hand free"). This raises one-finger playing to a new level.    50 different progressions.

There are only 8 different Chord Looper presets on Genos2 (one bank for each of the 12 keys). Should I think about selling my (two) Genos2 ...?

Don’t do it Chris    I have an E373 laying around the house and I see this new one still has the dreaded Function button. But I like the newly designed button panel. I think Yamaha is finally phasing out the white printed voice, style & song menus on their panels.

For the E373, the Voice List was still included in the Owner's Manual (there was only a separate "Drum Kit List"). The E383 now has a separate "Data List" (which also contains the Voice List), but it is not yet available. Yamaha will probably add the download link for the Data List soon.

I watched the E383 Style video obsessively. Yamaha seem to use a modified Nashville-type numbering system. Here's some chord progressions that I spotted:

I hope I transcribed those correctly. Ujiie is well-known for fast-fingering buttons.

Auto-Chord Play has a parameter which specifies the number of beats to hold each chord: 2, 4, or 8 beats.

The E383 lets you set the key signature for the style to be played. Hopefully, Auto-Chord Play transposes according to the key signature (C/Am or whatever).

Unfortunately, while these progressions cover all the normal ‘bulk’ of songs, hardly any songs use the same progression all the way through the song. There are nearly always some departures. I am not sure how the keyboard handles those.

I like the that these keyboards are light, so I have considered them for sure. The PSR and Genos are heavy beasts! But there are several dealbreakers for me:
1. The dreaded function button.
2. You can import only 10 styles, and the way to do it is convoluted.
3. Only 2 variations, and no dedicated buttons for them.
4. NO TRANSPOSE BUTTONS ON THE PANEL!!
The last one nearly broke my heart

But the styles are nice, the sound is great for the size. Oh, Yes, and no fingered on bass mode! Almost forgot. No whiter shade of pale playing on this one

Well, shucks, it is a beginner keyboard after all. 

The self-learning features are interesting although one wonders about their effectiveness. Does Yamaha test this stuff in their domestic music schools?

I flipped through the E383 songbook. When someone asks "How do I get started?", maybe point them at one of Yamaha's songbooks? They're free and Yamaha reuses the same public domain tunes over and over again.

[PSR_E473 (Salman)]

Well to be honest when the new E383 came out, I was in joy. I checked the videos that yamaha posted and the functions are quite the same as psr-E473 and PSR-EW425 but here are some things that have changed in the keyboard. Firstly, Yamaha ahs uploaded automated chord prog in the new psr-e383  WHICH IT DOES NOT HAVE ON MY PSR-E473 and the layout of the keyboard sucked as it looked like psr-e273 or psr-e283. but to b e very clear, I will stick to my yamaha psr-e473 until psr-e483 comes.

Agree with you 100% .. We moved onto a boat as house rentals were crazy so my SX900 was just too big and I sold it and got myself an E-373 .. great sound BUT everything points to it being a learning keyboard (I guess the "E" is for educational?)  I found that even playing for myself there is noway to transpose without stopping and using the function button and I really found just an intro/ending and 2 variations an absolute killer Never tried the lessons as I never needed them but I suppose if you are an absolute beginner it has it's merits .. You also cannot jump or drop an octave without the function button.  I ended up selling it and buying an OLD S650 cos it was closest to my SX900 but lighter and I was back with 3 intros 3 ending and 4 variations AND OTS ..Of course even though it's an old release it has transpose buttons right where I need them and I can import styles too (yes the styles even on this old one are SFF2)
