musicman100:
I have these speakers which sound great with the genos 2, but they both have a slight hum when you turn them on. Is this normal.

The hum is not affected by the volume control i.e it does not get louder.

I have tried connecting them to the same power extension in case on earth problem but no different I took out the audio cables no different aswell.

Once I play I cannot hear the hum it just smething I noticed when i first turn them on.

Thanks

hello musicman,
I don't have HS8 speakers and so I can only share my thoughts about this.
You say that even if speakers have no audio cables connected, the hum is still there. In this case hum is either generated by internal amplifier, or... You're saying that you're using power extension. How long is the cable and is the cable rolled (to make it shorter)? I ask, because rolled power cable can cause unwanted frequencies (due induction), which internal power supply doesn't filter (because such frequencies simply aren't expected to exist). In short, if your cable is rolled (or has a knots), try to straighten it.
If hum is generated by internal amplifier, then you can't do anything about that. Because if hum is comming from both speakers, it means it's how amplifier is designed -which, I must honestly say, I doubt. Maybe you should try speakers on another wall socket (in another room).

Just my 2c,
Bogdan

I use HS8 speakers with PA5x, (and formerly Genos). I notice a slight hum when they are first turned on, but it disappears as soon as the keyboard is turned on and seems absolutely quiet from there on. (Until the keyboard's auto shut off cuts in after 2 hours, then the hum returns!). I was wondering if your situation is similar - you cannot hear the hum when playing because when KB power is on there is no hum??
In my case it may have something to do with the fact that the PA5x is designed to use balanced speaker leads whereas I am continuing to use the same unbalanced leads/ connections I had with Genos because the overall quality seems fine.

I will check later later. Thanks for your thoughts!!

MadrasGiaguari:
I play Genos with an excellent pair of Hs8, and I'm very satisfied.

When I turn on I don't hear any unpleasant sound, at all.

Nevertheless cable length and connections number in my case could have been a problem: when  I had  my home restructured (almost from scratch) I asked the electricians to create  a wires facility under the floor in order to connect my keyboards to the powered speakers without having cables on the floor.
This means that I have:
-a pair of jack cables from Genos to the wall sockets (near Genos)
-a pair of jack cables under the floor (to reach the wall near where the monitor are positioned)
-a pair of jack cables from the second wall sockets to the monitors
=a total of 4 connections per stereo channel.

I assume that you are using pro-quality wires, and that you checked various settings with the Switch ROOM CONTROL on the back panels of Hs8.

If not, I suggest you an audio expert (also from a music shop) to give a look.

Ciao,

Angelo
