firmware psr 3000 HELP
« on: January 12, 2023, 10:16:48 PM »
Hello dear friends, I need to update the psr3000.
1: how do I know what version my psr3000 is
2: with what type of flash drive 4g, 8g, 16g, 32g
3: how to format the flash drive, from the psr or from the computer.
I hope your help thank you very much

Unfortunately the firmware on the PSR3000 can only be upgraded using smart media. Prior to upgrading to the latest firmware, the PSR3000 was FAT16, meaning you couldn't u se a USB stick over 2GB. If you want to make it FAT32, you'll need to track down a Smart Media card, as well as a PC that read/write it so that you can put the firmware onto it.

Yes it's a baffling choice to make it read from Smart Media only.

Hello friend, the reason why I want to update my psr3000, is that it goes out of tune on the right side, I restart it completely, and it works fine for a while and then it goes out of tune again, I disconnected the pitch but it keeps doing it, it's because That's what I want to try with an update, I have a smart media card and reader, I'll try it tomorrow, thank you very much for your help.

I was not able to update it, it seems that the flash drive needs to be formatted in FAT. my notebook does not have it, with the smart media card I could not do it

Hi Charlote,

I recommend formatting the SmartMedia Card directly on the PSR-3000. But make good care that you really format the "CARD" drive, not another drive.

For more information, please see the attached picture (screenshot from PSR-3000 Owner's Manual, page 66).

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Chris, I'll give it a try, the serious idea.
1- format the smart media card from the psr3000, as you indicated.
2- once formatted, load the update in the card from the official page yamaha.
3- download the update in the psr3000.
Once again thank you very much for your help

Hello, thanks for this topic, I also have a 3k but it only reads 2gb memories, the question I have is that it is not possible to update from the 2gb memory to go to the other version?
I have read and from what I understand it can only be done from smart media but that device is the worst thing that technology has produced, it doesn't last long and the maximum capacity was 128mb!!! pufff
Any help would be useful, thank you.

Ektor, keep in mind that style files and midi files are both tiny and measured in kb. 128 mb is more than capable of storing all the style files available on this site, which is more than anyone could even revue in a lifetime. As for midi files, well, you could save several thousand on that card as well and still have more free space than you would ever require. The PSR-3000 cannot play .wav or MP3 files, so no need to have a huge amount of storage for either on the 3000.

Good luck,

Yes, Ektor, you can. But as stated above, you'll need a SmartMedia card (ultra thin memory storage that maxes out at 128 mb, not gb!) to update the firmare, as the firmware is only installable via SmartMedia. Or you could just use 2GB and smaller USB sticks; which is admittedly inconvenient when you're trying to use the same stick on multiple keyboards, but at least it works.

Hello folks,  I have just joined the site having recently bought 2 PSR 3000s to replace my well used, very frequently gigged (over 22 years) and now wearing out PSR 550 and PSR 740.

I have seen the various postings regarding the firmware upgrade for the 3000.  I already have 2 Smartmedia cards (both 128MB) and I have just arranged purchase of a USB Smartmedia card reader (arriving soon) so that I can download the 1.8 version firmware using my laptop (already done) and then install it on the 3000 using my Smartmedia card.

The question I have, is there any document or list of the upgraded features that the 1.8 firmware provides?  Using the guidance given in this thread I checked out the firmware versions I have on both of my 3000s and they are 1.04 and 1.54 so they would certainly both benefit from an upgrade to 1.8.

Any further advice would be greatly appreciated.  Many Thanks. Mark
