midi connection psr 3000 & opentext
« on: November 08, 2017, 07:19:24 AM »
Pg 194 of manual shows how to connect to computer with usb to usb and to midi to usb with interface.  Do I need to go MIDI to use openText or will usb to usb be adequate?

I went ahead and ordered the Yamaha ux-16 cable interface today from sweetwater.  It looked like this is what I proberly needed.  If not, I just threw away 50 bucks!  Oh well, I really do want ot get this all set up and working.

Earl,

Following the manual you need just 1 usb cable, instal the right drivers for your instrument on your PC/Laptop. OpenText makes a tiny midi file which need to be on the harddrive of your Keyboard. Connect the tiny midifile (songfile) and style into a registration - done. All songtext/sheet music files are stored on you PC/Laptop.

Hope this will help <> Piet

Piet, not sure I understand your post.  My kb doesn't have a hard drive.

The Opentext midifile Piet is talking about just needs to be resident on your PSR-3000 somewhere so the registrations can find it.  It can be in internal memory, on the USB Flashdrive, or on the Smart Media Card, but if it is on removeable media, that media has to be connected in order for Opentext to work, so it would probably be best to put it in internal memory and just leave it there. Also, I agree with Piet, you should be able to use Opentext with just a single USB cable connection from the PSR-3000's "To Host" port to a USB port on your computer, rather than to bother with that cumbersome UX-16 adapter, that you really don't need - for Opentext, at least.

Do I take it that you have given up trying to display your sheet music on your iPad ?  I have been considering something similar, for some time now, but I keep coming back to the idea that it would be better to dedicate the iPad to the PSR-3000 for displaying sheet music, and dedicate the laptop to the MIDI Controller keyboard for playing VSTi's.

Roy,

Thanks for the explanation, I didn't know there is no HD in this KB - in the meantime I asked Michael Bedesem how about and he gives a simular answer.

;)I guess my age is really coming out.  I absoutly hate the ipad.  I don't like touch screens.  I use a mouse on every laptop I have. So, yeah, I was thinking of using the laptop approcach instead.  I have to stop and think though.  I also like the idea of being able to use vsts for extra sounds.

Regarding VSTi's on the iPad - see my recent reply to your older thread:
