I was so close to buying S970 episode 2
« on: September 20, 2017, 12:11:59 PM »
Hi friends! I admit that I also have attracted the Genos fever. But seeing that keyboards are getting touch screens now, i finally landed on a desicion today, and went on my way to buy an S970. My dealer said they were sold out, but he would get a new batch next week. But, now they have gone UP in price! I asked if that was because Yamaha had made some upgrades or something, but, no. Just gone up. So I am a little mad at myeself for waiting. Why, oh why did I wait for that overgrown touch screen monster called Genos? I will hit myself hard in the head, maybe that will reset my brain! Sutpid old me!

I am enjoying your adventures Toril and hope you enjoy the 970 if that is what you end up with. The Genos is going to be expensive and that coupled with your disability could make the 970 a better choice. Hard to understand why they would raise the price though?

I believe that the price rises are to do with the exchange rates between the yen and European currencies. So sadly you're right - you're now being charged more money for the same thing.

Hi :) Yes, it has something to do with the exchange. No updates. Since I now have a PSR 2100, the S970 will be a huge upgrade. I think I will stick to my decision to buy the S970. But I had hoped for a S990, without touch screen. That is not going to happen, of that I am sure. I am of corce curious about the new Genos model, and if they get it at my dealer I will try the touch screen and see if it can be operated with low vision. My 2100 has a lousy screen, but I get by using magnifiers. And, LOL, it didn't help to hit my head, I am still a little undecided, but I must be practical and go for the model that I can operate.

Toril S,

You will like the S970.  It is a great sounding keyboard.  With 512MB of expansion memory, you will have enough memory to install several expansion packs at one time.

I owned an S910 before the S970 which also is a great keyboard, but the S970 is soooo much better.  I am very happy I upgraded every time I sit down and play it.

 :)    :)    :)

If you are in the US, the price for the S970 seems to be around $2,000 and this dealer B&H has it in stock and ready to ship.    I have purchased many times from this vendor and they are really good.  Free shipping and no tax to most US states.

I am sure that if you google, you will find even better options for this model.

Hope this helps.

Right...
but I guess Toril lives in Norway, Europe which means both heavy shipping costs and heavy tax...

Yes, I live in Norway, and we are punished with all kinds of fees and dues if we buy from the internet. But I ordered my S970 today from my dealer here in Trondheim, and will get it next week. Just had to make a decision before I went crazy :) Not very smart of me to wait, for the price has gone up considerably, but life is a hard place. The dealer told me that he had sold several of the keyboards lately. Maybe there are others who find it safe to stick to the known operative system,  with all the wonderful buttons?

Toril, you really don't need a touch screen to absolutely love the S-970. If I had not been forced by reasons of health to retire last summer, I would have certainly upgraded from my S-950 to an S-970. It is beyond a doubt the most incredible keyboard I've had the opportunity to play. You will absolutely love it!

Good luck,
