PSR S650 Voice
« on: February 09, 2015, 01:59:50 PM »

Hi Friends,

Is there any way to install new voice of our choice in PSR S650 keyboard?
Presently they have given Indian kit and other Drum kits but I couldn’t find the instrument “Gatam” , so requesting your help to install this single instrument.

Thank you in advance.

Hi David,

The PSR-S650 can load Yamaha 'Voice & Style Expansion Packs'  (VSE)  which contain voices and styles.  There have been attempts to create user VSE packs but this is all unofficial.

There are currently two Yamaha Indian packs available of which 'Indian' can be downloaded for free.  The 'Indian 2' pack has to be purchased from Yamaha MusicSoft.

However the 'Gatam' voice that you asked about is not  specifically listed in the contents of either pack, although the descriptions do say that there are 'other voices' than those specifically listed, so it is possible that it may be in one or both of them.  I don't have a 650 so I can't confirm this.

I believe that the Gatam is a sort of percussion instrument

The 'Indian' (1) pack includes:  a variety of harmonium sounds with single, double, and triple harmonization. Also included are realistic sounds of Bansuri, Sitar, Sarod, and Tanpura Drone, in addition to Shehnai, Pungi, and Sarangi(String).   (Yamaha's description)

The 'Indian 2' pack includes:  Tabla | New Indian Kit 1 | New Indian Kit 2 | Tabla Kit 1 | Indian Kit 1 | Indian Kit 2 | Tabla Kit 2 | C Tabla | Db Tabla | D Tabla | Eb Tabla | E Tabla | F Tabla | F# Tabla | G Tabla | Ab Tabla | A Tabla | Bb Tabla | B Tabla | Indian Kit(Taal)

Thank you so much Ian,

That was very helpful information, but could there any chance of installing "Gatam" percussion instrument in PSR S650?? Please let me know if it’s available.

I have presently installed Indian Expansion pack 1, but i don’t have Indian expansion pack 2... Thought of purchasing but price is too high. However i have seen the list of instruments they have in Indian pack 2. This includes different instrument for different series (S950, S750, and S650)

Gatam percussion set is available for PSR S950 but not in other keyboard series. I have copy pasted those lists below.

Please let me know if it is possible to install S950 Expansion pack to S650.

Hi.. David

At the beginning of this post, i saw that you needed a GADAM KIT . By using a sample of the instrument solo performance and the new YEM software, i created a ppf  file, cpi file & ppi file for yamaha psr - s970.I have added the link below, this was my first attempt on this software,I have added a few other kits also like Tappe kit & Tabla kit hope you like it,..

Sorrry David - it's bad news all the way down.

For the 650 you are pretty much restricted to only being able to use the packs sold by Yamaha, which are in the YEP format. They are all-or-nothing, i.e. you can only install one pack at a time - you can't pick out individual samples. And you can only use a pack that was created specifically for your model - a 950 pack cannot be used in any way with your 650.

The situation is quite different on the 670, 770 and 970 which use YEM, which is a totally different format. So I'm afraid that the pack prepared by rejoicenlord will not work at all on your instrument.
